I'm using the 2.8.6 version of limewire (latest available when I d/l'd), under windoze 2K SP3, and it craps out in the middle of downloads, randomly, with "Could Not Move to Library", and the progress shows 100% (incorrectly) Apparently LW cannot compare the file size of the incomplete file with the size of a complete version of the file, although, if you "Kill" the download, and go to the incomplete part of the Library, and click Resume, it restarts at the correct percentage, so why it jumps to 100% is beyond me? "Could Not Move to Library" should be changed to: "Download Failed - Unknown ERROR!" and should not set the progress bar to 100% That is all I ask, I love the smooth user interface, and can live with the slowness and processor cycle consumption, for the sake of it being Java based... but this whole "Could Not Move to Library" thing is bulls##t, the least they could do is make a note in the FAQ, because believe me, this will be one of the most FA Questions. And for the record, my mate is using a Mac with OS x v10.2 and he has the same problem... thanks for reading. |

Not sure what windoze 2K SP3 is and unfortunately can't help as I don't have your problem. I agree Limewire is crap but we don't seem to have any choice. Have you changed your download directory? My computer behaved well after I had only one. If all fails, try feedback@limewire.com Good luck. |

IMPORTANT – Dissatisfied Limewire users Everyone keeps whinging about bad connections, incomplete downloads etc etc. how many files do YOU have available to share? If you want everything to run well, get a good cpu, get broadband, leave your computer on all the time, share everything you can and... everything will be (well almost) fine. If you really can't find the music you want for free, try Ebay and buy the CD, they're cheap enough. If you still don't want to spend money, ***Warez violation***. BUT PLEASE if you are going to share files, please make sure they are not corrupt, they are decent quality, they are as described and they work!!! Johnny-Amy - I'm also now a happy (almost) user. I was spoiled with Napster that had a massive international library. Limewire is really lame. However, it's better than nothing and there is improvement with 2.8.6. Unfortunately I have to turn the computer off sometimes when I'm running other programmes (not enough memory). |

Re: new problem Quote:
The Requery Sent message means that the situation is the following: The host has recently turned off his/hers client and his/hers files are no longer available on the network for you to download. The host you are trying to download from is a cheater and has set his/hers preferences to allow for 0 upload slots and no one will be able to download from that host.(this condition does not always result in the requery message sometimes you get into download status but continously stays at 0K) You are both behind a Firewalled connection and on private subnetwork of IP addresses. The host you are trying to download from are to busy and are using a bad client that do not report the busy status to you so that you get the busy signal or Waiting in Line signal. The Requery Sent basically means that LimeWire will continue to search for the file in question but it will only do so for about once every 45 minutes. To speed this process up you should leave the file there in the download section and not kill it and then whenever you during a download process gets that message as soon as possible do a new manual search by using the exact search term as the file name in question and hopefully LW will see new hosts to download the same file and if that is the case it will download it from there(them) instead. When you minimize the LW application to the System Tray it will take a minimum amount of resources but if you have downloads in progress they will continue and if people are uploading from you they will be allowed to do so untill they have finished. If you gets disconnected of the actuall network when it is in the System Tray I am not sure but I do know that if it is then LimeWire will imediatelly connect when you maximize it hence the green dot. One thing that you should be aware of though is that even if you shut down LimeWire completely(File>Close) you will still be downloading files if you where in the progress of doing so and also people would still be uploading files from you if they where doing so before you shut it down untill they have finished downloading from you.If you want people to definetly not be able to download from you then you have to shut down your Internet connection or change this in LW preferences(Tools>Options>Shutdown) and here select the shut down immediatelly option then click apply then OK.

Yes LW do eat memory but if you have plenty then that is not a problem.I would recommend the following System configuration in order for LimeWire to function well: Mac OS 9.0 or later Java applet reader MRJ 2.2.4(JRE1.1.8) or later and atleast 32MB of RAM assigned to it 320MB physical RAM(Virtual memory turned off) Broadband connection 0.5Mbit/s or faster The could not move to library issue sure is a strange one I have not encountered it ever and yeat I am using the latest version 2.8.6 for classical Mac OS.But most of those problems is supposed to have been solved in the next realese. To see what other people are downloading from you do the following: Under the Monitor tab uncheck the Enable check mark that lets you view incoming searches instead you should do the following: Look after a couple of small blue arrow heads at the bottom left corner in the ribbed area of the incoming searches window and double click the arrow head that points upwards and a new window with all uploads and the ip numbers etc that are in progress will appear instead of the incoming search window. If you want to see all uploads that have been made from your computer even after they have finsished then you have to do the following: Go to: Tools>Options>Uploads>basic and here deselect the Auto Clear completed Uploads then click Apply button then OK button and then shut down LimeWire and re launch it for the change to take effect and voila you can now see all uploads that have been made from your computer. It is very slow? No it is about as fast as other networks. How fast you will be able to download depends on how fast connection the person you are trying to download from have and also how busy it is.And also ofcourse the speed of your connection.

I just had to stop a minute to say a HUGE THANKS!! to Joakim Agren. This is among the first posters I have encountered who has given such intelligent advice in so clear and comprehensive a manner. Whoever is in charge of hiring moderators could do the entire LimeWire community a huge service by saying, "Come on board" to Joakim Agren. It's a real pleasure to read advice presented so competently. It's a true irony that we need to depend on Sweden to give us our best dose of plain english to be heard on this board in a long time. |
