Hi, Joakim Agren or anyone else.
Maybe you can answer this question:
I did as you said and although many people try to download my files many have the message "file not found" or "transfer interrupted." I know they're all there because I checked and I'd like to share them.

It's a real pleasure to read advice presented so competently. It's a true irony that we need to depend on Sweden to give us our best dose of plain english to be heard on this board in a long time.
Hello!

Thank you very much for your compliments!.

I always try to do my best when it comes to giving usefull and good computer support!.

The following 4 quotes are picked at random from previous postings on this site. They illustrate my and many others' frustration with the kind of 'help' provided all too often, by this board. The quotes are an abridgement of a multi-page dialogue between LeeWare and Trap_Jaw who appear to be in huge disagreement as to proper procedures for 'Maximizing LimeWire's Download/Upload Success...

QUOTES:

"However for people you just like to jump on the computer and actually accomplish download something this information is very valuable to them. Yes - I am suggesting that people block all of the people who don't now how to force IPs for use on Gnutella."

"Pong/Responses Recurse the Query path to find the the host that issued the query. If my machine is a NATed machine it will respond with the ip of my private net."

"in the cases where QoS is applied to P2P traffic the polocies tend to be strick which means that almost no-bandwidth is allocated to P2P traffic. So for instance anyone downloading or uploading on these connection can expect serious problems with the files tranfers. Take for instance a QoS polocies that says allow 4Kbps to P2P traffic means:"

"MP3 Size * BitRate = SizeInBit / QoSBitRateAllows = SecondsToDownload / MinutesToDownload = Download Time."

I, for one, have absolutely no idea what they are talking about and can guarantee neither speaks to the majority of LimeWire users. I'm sure they gain a certain fulfillment from showing their command of the lingo off, but most of us just want to be able to log-on, search for files and download; all the while allowing others to do the same with our files.

So... once again, thank you to Joakim Agren, for your grasp of this simple concept. If those in charge had the same grasp of the real and fundamental frustration level (made apparent by those of us actually using the program) they would save their high tech verbal jousting and begin the implementation of answers instead of rhetoric. My QueryPath as Recursed by my4Kbps to P2P Pong/Responses QoSBitRate is sure of it!

Hello!

The file not found issue has been around since I started using LW and there have never been any solution to it.It sure is a strange problem but fortunatelly most files are not affected by this. For my 6100 files only about 40 is affected.

The Transfer interrupted issue is also a strange bug but unlike the File Not Found issue this one is new.I am also affected by this and I am using LimeWire 2.8.6 for Classical Mac OS 9.1.I did not have that problem when I was using LimeWire 2.4.4.It seems to be related to the Gwebcache and swarmed downloads.I will have to get back to you on this isssue.I will contact the developers and see what they have to say about it and if they can fix it.

Joakim,
Hello, o-helpful-one! I read a post a few days ago (though I can't seem to locate it by searching for it) about File Not Found. No, as you said, there is no solution, but an explanation given goes something like this:

If I begin downloading file "XYZ.mp3" from you and it doesn't complete, it is still in my download queue. Then you change the name to "ZYX.mp3" or delete/move it. Next time I run LimeWire, it will try to connect to you again, but it is looking for "XYZ.mp3" which is no longer there. You will see the "File Not Found" message in your Upload queue. Not sure what I will see on my end, though. Maybe the never-ending "Requery" message?

Anyway, just my two cents on this issue...

You are awesome, by the way, with all your detail!

in the future, limewire will communicate with other limewires as often as possible without actually exchanging the real filename. instead, they will use 'hashes' of the file. this way, someone could start downloading file XYZ.doc, stop downloading, have the other end rename the file (but not change it at all!) to ZYX.doc, and the first person will still be able to resume the download, keeping the original name they wanted.

there are also many improvements (again thanks to trap_jaw) that will fix most (if not all) of the 'could not move to library' bugs. limewire will now attempt to replace bad characters with a '_' and cap the length of the filename, instead of dying whenever it encounters a name that is bad. also, it will stick with the name you chose when you clicked 'download' instead of possibly changing it midway through.

i'm not sure where you're seeing transfer interrupted. that's only on the upload window, not the download window. and that generally just means the person uploading from you decided they didn't want the file anymore.

I have had god use of limewire a wile.
but after a omformatted disk and a newinstallation,I cant open the program.my mac just asks me,what program I whant to open in.the limewiresymbol is just a contact.
nothing happens.

Good luck.
Windoze is just my slang for Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 3 (windoze 2K SP3)

I've got only one shared/download folder:
(C:\Program Files\LimeWire\Shared)

I'm not sure what the probelem is, but it's irritating...

thanksfor reading

Thanks. I just saw the post about "file not found". I just wonder if it affects uploaders.
