"Completed Items Disappearing" please Help me. When I say Items I mean songs... Yesterday things were fine. I built my shared files from 25 to 35 yesterday no problems. Today I downloaded 1 song. watched it finish. Saw that "sharing number did not increase". I looked in shared - not there I looked in incomplete - not there. I decided I was nuts. So I downloaded another song and the same thing happened. I am using xp and windows media player 9 is installed. The only thing I did differently between yesterday and today is that I opened up windows media 9 and I sent it searching in this shared folder so that it could go and get 3 songs so that I could put them on a playlist in it. In otherwords I added these 3 songs to my media library but never moved them from the shared folder where they still are now. and playable. What did happen is that the icons for all my songs ( in limewire shared folder in windows explorer) do look like the stupid windows media icons instead of the green that they were before. I don't like it that WMA took that over but still it should not cause our newly downloaded files to not show up in shared folders should it? I checked and these downloads did not go into any other area of my hard drive either. It is like they downloaded and then dissappeared. Please dont tell me they were incomplete files. I know the difference and that is not what is happening here...... can anyone help? P.S.. The 2 songs that disappeared where [Edit]... So I decided to do a "computer search for files with this name.... and guess what? It found both of these in a file that is the "shared folder that I have in windows". Not the limewire shared folder.... but documents and settins/username/shared/ This is awful. I suspect the problem is related to "windows media player doing some sort of take over..."... but that is totally wierd and I don't know where to turn for help. I want my songs that I download with limewire..... to stay in limewire...........in the shared folder..... and be available to everyone else in limewire that wants them...... Otherwise this defeats the very basic purpose of even having a limewire..... What is happening should be illegal... Is it a setting or somthing somewhere that I just have not seen? Help me please please please. silky P.S. For a little more data on other people having this same problem, I suspec.... you can see this following thread. files won't go to shared folder - Gnutella Forums Edited to comply with the House Rules. a few more links for you http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=18309 http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?postid=247636 http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=16164 Could this be a java problem with Windows XP and Mac OSX too? I remember keeping Quicktime away from incomplete items. Perhaps media playing programs add some kind of metadata that conficts with Java and newer platforms? Sorry if this just adds to the problem, but it sounds like it's not just limewire. Last edited by stief; February 1st, 2003 at 10:40 PM. |

I don't know about that. I have not had a chance to peruse those links yet. I have been in limewire options..... download to a specific directory... Somehow... this has been changed to ----- documentsand settings/username/shared. So I am trying to change it to where they will go into /programfiles/limewire/shared. ( Although I don't know if that is the right thing to do, as I only want "complete" items in shared...) At any rate it will not allow me to choose that. I get an error message saying that it is an invalid file path...... even though I am chossing to "browse" to get to the limewire shared file to add it.... I am having to manually move each download ----- to the limewire shared folder -----and then close down limewire and reopen it, in order for it to show up in my limewired shared folder and the number of sharings to go up by 1. I guess what I need to know is...... assuming that I installed into all of the default areas..........and knowing that I am using xp pro with only one user name which is me..... what is the default address that I want my downloaded songs to go to when downloading.... This should be something like C:\program files\limewire\ shared but limewire will not accept that and it may be because it goes to a different folder to get sorted as to whether it is "incomplete or complete" first. Does anyone know the correct default path? Thank You, silky |

user guide says...... Here is a quote, word for word.... from page 11 of the user guide in pdf format that you can download. Begin quote: The shared folder in the Library contains all of the files you are sharing with other users on the network. Anything you download will be placed here by default. If you wish to remove items from this folder you can do so manually…. Bla bla… End quote: Well that is not what is happening anymore. That is what happened up through yesterday. NO MORE..... why? I am bamboozled |
