untranslatable mp3s Limewire used to work great for me, but now when I download mp3s I can't play them at all, in any program. Is there any way that I can translate these things so the files are actually usable? |
platform? OS version? |
OS 9.2 . . . I have the most recent release of the basic Limewire |
OK--sounds like a similar problem is already under discussion. If you didn't already try a search, perhaps these threads will help? http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=14510 or http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...&highlight=mp3 Sorry if this doesn't help. BTW, there's no difference in functionality between the basic and the Pro version, so your problems won't be solved by donating to the Pro. If you do decide to help out the developers, don't expect any extra support than you'll find by searching these forums. Good luck |
I've tried all the solutions suggested there. I don't know what it is -- according to everything I try the files I download aren't even soundfiles, or are not in the correct format. Thanks though. If anyone else has any other ideas, please help! |
does it say what kind of files they are? |
Same problem! I am having the exact same problem - the mp3's I download can't be played by anything- soundjam, realplayer, etc. Toast tells me they are not audio files, and some other program told me they are not valid MPEG's. Get Info just says they are documents. What gives? I used to be able to listen to files downloaded from Limewire!? |
me too! I download the files. Then go to open them. They don't work. Very frustrating. Any solutions to these problems yet? |

You must read the information in the links that stief provided above. They holds the solution to your problems especially the first link. If none of the solutions in those posts worked then we can almost be sure that the files you downloaded are not true mp3 files. When you download stuff of Gnutella these days you really have to be carefull. There is alot of spam files out there that are not genuine files. The tell tell signs of that is if the file sizes are to small to be a complete song so before downloading anything on Gnutella check the file size first and ofcourse the file exstension. One thing though some preferences in your machine might have become corrupt and you may be forced to some remapping. But first do what is suggested in the links. If the solutions there do not work then I will guide you trough the remapping process that you might have to do. |
