Angry Library/LimeWire Shared File, Too Weird!

Ok, all of a sudden my downloads are not turning up in my LimeWire Shared File, nor by extension my library. They are not in my documents, my music, or any other file I can find on my computer. They will play from the site. I checked my settings, all is well and correct except I can't find my downloads anywhere! Malfunction, or record company trick?

Most operating systems have a "Find..." function that allows you to search their hard drive for any files.

Default Figured THAT Out Already

Oh, yes I used find I have been at this home computer thing for more than a few years now, so I quessed that part a long time ago. Two of the songs I downloaded never showed up anywhere in the system, a few others showed up in another folder. LimeWire is suppose to stick all your downloaded music into the LimeWire shared folder, unless you tell it to do otherwise. LimeWire wants, suddenly and without explaination, to put all the music into another file. In this case, the problem is LimeWire, not my computer.

Lightbulb saved files

Katgirl-
You have to open LimeWire, tools, options, then sharing.
This is the file you must screw around with. In the box you should see
C:\Program Files\LimeWire\Shared
If its in the box, click on it then hit add. If it is not in the box, try hitting add, then put it in the box. My first method should do the trick. If it doesnt, make sure its in the box anyway, then go down to extensions and type in "C:\Program Files\LimeWire\Shared" without the (" "). Press Apply then OK. I had the same problem, but after reading through the forum i found the answer something similiar to this. Hope it works, good luck.

Lightbulb Same problem! - WMP 9???

OK, I'm getting the exact same thing. Suddenly, Limewire is saving to C:\Documents and Settings\Timothy\Shared (Timothy being my XP login name), and if I try to put it the usual directory as suggested above, Limewire simply refuses to do it, and pops a message saying that's an invalid directory! Why? It was fine until a few days ago... =(

-Timothy

THIS JUST IN... I THINK IT'S DUE TO WMP 9!
After further research, I find that others are having the same issue after installing Windows Media Player 9, which I also have done. It seems that this install sets the Program Files directory (and all sub dirs) to be somehow permanently READ-ONLY. I try to disable this, as I think it is causing the 'invalid directory' message, but it keeps setting itself (instantly) back to read-only. How to get around this??? WHAT A PAIN!!! Grrr.. Microsoft...

Timithy,
Your problem is with XP, not wmp9. I have wmp9 and it didnt effect my limewire what so ever. try reading the methods listed above more thoroughly, or read more of the forum.

Unhappy Tried that, too Jaydog...

I tried that, and I get the same problem Timothy does. When I try to change it back to the correct direct (LimeWire program Shared) it says the directory is invalid. I also did not have this problem until I installed Windows MP 9, but you say you have MP9 and no problem. So I am quessing it is a glitch in XP, I just have to figure out what I need to tweak to fix it. Thanks.
