Success! I threw out all of the other limewire files that were not deleted by the uninstall, reinstalled the program, and it is working fine again! Thanks for all of your help!

Of course I already trashed them so I don't remember exactly. I think the advice to follow is:
run uninstall
search for all limew containing files
delete those files!
Download and reinstall the program.

Sorry that I can't be of more help, but this seemed to work for me.

Good luck to others if they have the same problem.

Happy that it finally worked out and got solved

This kind of strange problems are often the result of corrupted files as it turned out to be!
