hits found, but no downloads listed

I have only used limewire a little bit. It used to work fine for me. However, now when I try to use it, the searches run, I get a number of hits on the search screen e.g. ******* (26) but none of the hits show up in the large box. It is blank. Thus, there are hits, but I can't download anything. why is this occuring? Is it a firewall problem? I am using Earthlink DSL and a Belkin Router which has a built in NAT firewall. Is this the problem?
Thanks for any help!!!

I'm really confused, too - are you using Windows? If so - this is a DirectX related bug. Try restarting LimeWire/ your computer. - If it doesn't go away you might be doomed.

No, I am using Mac OS X 10.2.4. I have restarted the computer but it does not help. Every time I launch limewire, same result. I have even ditched limewire, downloaded it again, and reinstalled, but same result. I get a number of hits on the searches, but the individual hits don't show up in the seach box. Any ideas?

Hello!

I dont know exactly for Mac OSX but in Classical Mac OS 9.X there was a bug like this that was caused by inproper System Fonts selected in the Appearence control panel. Go to your Appearence Control Panel and for the general System Fonts select Geneva 10 points and then re-start your computer and see if it helps any.

I'm afraid this last suggestion did not help either. Any more ideas? Could this be a firewall issue, and if so, how would I find this out?

Hello!

Sorry that it did not work. It could be that LW was installed inproperly and some of the lib files might not be able to execute properly. I would suggest that you download a new copy of the latest version of LW (2.9X when it comes out in full version) and then reinstall it and see if that fixes the problem. But another thing that you should try first is to upgrade your Java and install it( or reinstall it if you have the latest).

Sounds weird. I think I read about something similar a while back. A firewall shouldn't cause a display problem if Limewire is finding results, and if LW is finding results, it's able to connect and search fine through your firewall. You are just having trouble displaying the results, right?

A fresh install should replace all the old components, but if not, how do you ensure you're completely uninstalling Limewire? Getting rid of some old corrupt components might help the fresh install. Older versions did have some invisible prefs (Find in "everywhere" ; file name contains "limew"; visibility "all". I don't know if it's necessary, but I also trash the invisible file found by searching for "zerog" (.com.zerog.registry.xml).

Then, if it's not a LW install problem, a system display problem would be the next check. Have you tried creating a new Admin User Account? That will give you all new preferences and is much easier than reinstalling the system. I could find the Apple details if it will help, so do post back.

If you don't want to try any of these, I noticed Pro support is answering some emails, or try Acquisition.

I have gotten rid of old versions of Limewire by running the uninstall program, then downloading it again and installing it. With the program installed I looked for a file containing zerog and found none on my hard drive. Perhaps that is specific for OS9? Again, I am running OS 10.2.4. I am not sure why any of the comments regarding OS9 should work since I am not even using OS9, and a complete system reinstall of both operating systems did not solve my problem. Any more thoughts?

stief March 13th, 2003 04:47 PM

Hello again--all my last posted comments refer to OS 10.2.4. If you want to keep trying, I don't mind. I'm not an expert, but am willing to help.

I'm not sure about the need to delete the ".com.zerog.registry.xml" file either. It's invisible (it has a period at the beginning). Let's just forget about it for the time being, and make sure you can start fresh. Pardon me if I'm being too simple--but I'm still not sure if you deleted all the old components, since uninstall won't delete the LimeWire Folder in the Applications folder: that has to be done too.
Perhaps if you indicated how much experience you have with OSX, I might be able to adjust my comments accordingly. I'd like to know if you already know how to do a "Safe Boot", repair permissions, and "Create new Admin User"

In the meantime, here are the steps I take to delete old LW stuff after running the "uninstall"

The OSX "Find" command allows these options
Search in: (choose "Everywhere")

Search for items whose:
file name (choose "contains"); enter "limew"
Add criteria (choose "visibility")
visibility (choose "all")

Click on the search button and see what shows up that probably should be deleted.

Then I'd look for two or more folders called "Shared" and "Incomplete"
What's inside?

Joakim Agren March 13th, 2003 06:06 PM

Hello!

But when doing as stief described dont forgett to not delete the content of the Shared folder. After all you dont want to delete your shared files.
A Firewall question!

Are you by any chance using Netbarrier?

I just tryed to use it under Mac OS 9.X (version 2.0)and strange things happened. Text on certain webpages started to become bold and one font size larger. Weird!. And it did not even let me run LW due to an exstension conflict( system error 2). So I trashed it and the problems where gone. Maybe the Firewall could have the similar effect on LW under Mac OS X. And cause strange mysterious problems like this.
