Excuse the ignorance but what's .sit

What is a .sit file. I'm new and am not familiar with this file type.

Hello!

They are compressed archives created by Stuffit Expanders Drop Stuff application for the Macintosh platform they are not related to PC's. They are the equivalent to .zip files for Windows. They usually contain Mac applications.
