searching weirdness

Whenever I do a search, say, for "*****" (or anyone somewhat obscure, really) I get results that say "AWESOME," "please share," "the real thing"...I've gotten this on multiple searches for multiple artists/songs. Are these ads? viruses? what the heck?!

Hello!

These files are just spamfiles overflooding the network.Usually they are files that when launched will launch your browser and take you to a porn site which will overflood you with popups and.The way it works is that some companys (maybe the RIAA) have hosts out there on Gnutella that scripts a respond to your query and matches the file name with the search string that you used so it does not mather what you are searching for it will send you a query hit always with the familiar attachment like Awesome. The purpose of all this is to anoy users like you and other Gnutella users and also to increase the traffic on Gnutella making it less efficent. They have the hope that not very knowledgable users out there will keep such downloaded files in their Shared directory resulting in QueryHits that is not genuine and eventually the search result received will have more fake hits then qenuine. They have already succeeded in doing so when it comes to rare files. And their dreams is to totaly collapse the network. Whenever you come across them just block the host that shares them. I think that the next version of LW will have a Block Host button to make it easy. But for now you have to manually do it from LW's preferences (Tools>Options>Filters>Hosts). And under Filter Hosts you can add the IP addresses to the hosts that are spamming.

Hello!

To display the IP addresses of hosts in a search result list is done the following way:

Move your mouse cursor in one of the bar areas(name, quality, speed etc) at the top of the search result list and right click(Control click+ Mouse button on a Mac) and a contextual menu with various options will appear. Make a checkmark next to Location and the IP addresses of hosts will now be displayed. However since the screen area is limited you will probably not see the whole address. However the size of individual fields can be adjusted by moving your mouse cursor between the individual fields for instance between the Chat and Bitrate fields and when the cursor turns into a doublearrow then you can then drag individul fields to the size that you want them which enables you to see the complete address. Another option that I preferr to use is to click the little blue arrow head symbol that points to the left in the bars between the search result area and the Search area. That will extend the search result area all over the complete width of your screen. To view the search area again click the arrow head that points to the right.

Very many thanks to Joakim Agren.. This is a problem which Limewire should be actively addressing with someone as knowledgeable as..............well, YOU.

In the latest version right-click on the search result and choose: "block host".
