![]() I'm running Windows 2000. I would like my friend to be able to see/download my files in my shared area, but they don't appear when he does a search. I would like to have him specifically add my IP address to his connected servers because I think that would work, but I don't know how to get my IP address. The "Physical Address" that I get back from running "ipconfig/all" is 00-20-78-1D-04-F0 which doesn't look like an IP address. Any help would be appreciated. |

![]() You could try using sending your friend a magnet-link via ICQ/AIM/MSN (although it might be a little bit complicated). The first problem with this is that you need direct access to the internet, - then you both have to use LimeWire. Third problem is, that you need the urn of one of the files you want to share with your friend. Then send your friend a link like this: magnet:?xt=urn:sha1:(urn of the file, you get this by doing a bitzi-lookup for the file in your Library: the urn is displayed somewhere in the displayed page)&dn=arbitrary_file_name_without_spaces_and_ot her_special_characters_so_you_don_t_need_special_u rl_encoding.mp3&xs=http://(your ip: get this from the connection tab, look for the Remote-IP header in the tool-tip for one of your connections):(your gnutella port, usually 6346)/uri-res/N2R?urn:sha1:(urn of the file) complete magnet link will look like this: magnet:?xt=urn:sha1:SSDFDSFLKSDJFSDSASDF&dn=arbitr ary.file.name&xs=http://10.0.0.1:6346/uri-res/N2R?urn:sha1:SSDFDSFLKSDJFSDSASDF

![]() It does work, but it's a little complicated, - I think one of the next LimeWire version will have a feature to create those magnet links automatically.

![]() Thanks here too. I've bookmarked this thread! Can the magnet be emailed, or is the messaging client required? Is there (or will there be) a way to format the magnet for those of us on a NAT? Can I make the magnet client specific? (I think Acquisition is magnet-enabled) |

![]() NAT'ed hosts are not able to create magnet links unless they do port-forwarding and force their IP address. You can also send magnet links via eMail. The magnet can't be made client specific. BearShare and Acquisition might also parse those magnet links.
