rockhaus,
Apparently, the only 'acceptable' way to finish a half-finished download is to manually select Repeat Search from the right-click context-menu of the original search. The latest generation of Gnutella s/w no longer does an "auto requery" for files.

Personally, I've switched to Kazaa Lite. Even though it doesn't 'natively' do auto-requeries, there are add-ons that will do it for you. But I haven't even had to use them -- in just 3 days, I've been able to download the 2 files that I wasted months on Gnutella trying to download.

And I've got a symmetric 768k DSL...

Hello!

Actually that is not the best way of getting a complete download. If you for some reason lost a connection to a host while downloading and gets into Could Not Download status then you should just highlight the file in question and click Kill Download then from the search result list where you originally clicked the file to download it you should once again click that file and hopefully the connection attempt will be successfull and you can continue to download the file from where it left of. If this does not work because that particular servent is no longer available to you then you should do a Research for the file to find alternate locations for that same file.

You say that you wasted months on finding 2 files could you tell which those files where so that I could attempt to find them and see if I could download them just to see if they are as hard to find on Gnutella as you say they are.

Joakim,
Yes, you're right about keeping the original download window open and killing/retrying it from there. In fact, what I've been doing is:
- locate non-NAT'd source for file
- Browse Host
- download from Host window
This way, I can continue to look for new hosts. The problem is that I eventually have to shutdown LW and/or reboot (every 2-3 weeks?) and I lose those windows. I still have a list of IPs that were, at one time, valid sources... but I don't know any way of plugging them back into LW.

The files were:
- Alias 2x11 Echelon.avi
- Taken 1x9 John.avi

previous sources for Alias episode :
- 66.123.209.51:6346
- 24.41.38.205:7891

previous sources for Taken episode:
- 208.191.38.254:6346
- 24.244.44.84
- 217.44.85.218:41143
- 12.230.25.232

P.S. I've now downloaded the Alias episode (took 3 days) and I've got 2/3rd's of Taken (which appears to be in 2 files).

I'll try to convince the developers to change the resume button to actually do something.
