These volunteers keep the board organized and moving. Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity) Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement. 2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures. 3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum. 4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks. 5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement. 6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban. 13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts. 14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. 15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community. |

"Download Any" and "Download All" Q: Is grouping always accurate? A: No. This is the reason for the ?Download Any? and ?Download All? options. You can, for example, select all of those individual files within one group and press, ?download all.? This will attempt to download ALL of the songs you have selected. ?Download any,? in contrast, will attempt to download ONE of the files in the currently selected group. Grouping can be disabled by unchecking the check box at the bottom right of the search window ------------------------------ I'm on a Mac G4 using Safari with DSL. I have read this again and again---and I can't find a way to choose "any" or "all" option. What am I doing WRONG?!!! Does "grouping" help me get MORE songs faster, or fewer songs in the long run..? I have tons of "unable to download"----so I figure I have some preference set incorrectly----or stupidly! That's nothin new to me... Miz B ***** P.S. THANKS. Your problems Hi To answer your other questions: By grouping like host sources together, you achieve two potential benefits: (a) you may get two or more sources to download simultaneously which, by a process happily described as an avalanche, downloads your desired material more quickly than from a single source; or (b) gives you a safety net to a stalled download. If you have a single host and it fails, you have to take remedial action to recover the connection or identify another source. If you are using a grouped source, when one host fails, you will automatically be passed on to the next host in the group that is free. The reason for you seeing many more "unable to download" messages has nothing to do with your settings in the Preference boxes. It is simply that the number of people using Gnutella has been increasing dramatically but, sadly, the majority are unsociable and only take, tantalising the world with a list of hits that will never be given. You have to be very active to search and then repeat the searches over time so that you identify as wide a spectrum of potential sources for the material you want as possible. Persistence and a refinement of searching strategies is required on your part. |

What do you recommend? There's so much to learn! Thanks for all your help... Paula |

Preferences Frankly, with the exception of the two defaults of using the Limewire MP3 Player and being an ultrapeer, I would leave all the defaults untouched in the Preference boxes. Although tweaking and fiddling at the margins can often be a good learning strategy, it won't help you much here. Your machine and your "habits" will be noticed and dispassionately recorded by the ultrapeer machines. The more you share and the more reliably others are able to upload from you, the more your machine (and its user) will earn respect. It's a quid pro quo kind of thang. However, even that would be irrelevant so long as you remain a leaf by choice. And, in all seriousness, there are some performance issues for the developers to resolve for ultrapeers and you will be safer as a leaf until then, even though it does marks you down as less than completely sociable. But, in the wider pool of Gnutella, the majority of unthinking and uncaring users will be oblivious to this minor blemish on your escutcheon. |

I'm new on Mac OS X---and while I knew all my previous Macs up one side and down the other----this Unix stuff is ALL new to me...I sure ain't ready to deal with performance issues of any kind...Cripes, I'm still working on getting my own tiny 2-computer network up and running! Everything is completely changed... The "help" here is way beyond great...Best I've come across in years...congratulations to those of you working on keeping this up and growing. Is there a forum where musicians meet to discuss ways in which this might be used to HELP a band stay viable and still earn some money? Thanks for all the service/help you've given... Paula |

Generally Don't be deceived by any of the advertising linking OSX to Unix. For all practical everyday purposes, you don't need to know. Watch out what you're doing if you propose to link access between your two machines and the internet. Routers can cause problems to Limewire's operation and you will need more advice if that is your intention. As to the service on this forum. It's just an accident that there are a number of helpful people around. Come back in a few months and there'll likely be a new crew on board. As to advising the band, that's called management and is worth a percentage of the gross. Good luck David |

Would love to talk with musicians who've learned the ins and outs of utilizing it successfully...I'm brand new. I'll keep looking---I'll bet they're here somewhere and I just haven't looked hard enough... Thanks again! Paula |

And so the saga continues Brave Vikings never worry about Grendelunix, they just float across the top of the lake and never worry about what lies beneath. Just have the confidence to experiement and you will solve your problems. The problem is in the actual use of routers. In your situation, you can leave Limewire on. Good luck in your search for kindred spirits. David |
