Default New files will not play?

Files that I have downloaded in the past two days will not play. I click on the file and it just sits there. If I click on files that I have downloaded in the past, they come right up in quicktime. How can I get new files to play? Please help.

Default Puzzling decision

I'm not sure I follow your set-up decisions. You have been clicking on individual files to play each track individually by Quicktime? If that understanding is correct, it seems a strange and inefficient way of enjoying your downloads. As a default, there is an MP3 Player built into Limewire. During any given session, you can transfer as many of the Library files as you like to form a Playlist. For a better long-term solution, use one of the standard MP3 packages. Assuming you are on a Mac, iTunes should be bundled into your system. If not, it is downloadable. If you are on a PC, there are many more than adequate Players around on the net (you may decide not to use Windows Media Player because of its spyware). Frankly, Quicktime is not the best package for this purpose at all and, whichever alternative you pick should be made the default format for all internet downloads. That way, when you highligh the entry in the Library and click on Launch, the file should be played in the better system.

Default Itunes as default setting

Quicktime was just what opened files when I first stared downloading. I am sure that it isn't the best choice. I am on a Mac and I do have iTunes. How do I make I Tunes my default to open files? Thanks for the help.

Default This is a standard question. . .

. . .answered in many other threads. However, the short answer is to select the Preferences menu element in iTunes. Under the General heading, you will see the last element on the dialogue page is to set iTunes as the default application for all internet downloads. That will ensure the future until you download another version of Limewire or iTunes. At which time, you should remind the Preferences box of your preference. And, before you ask, add all the downloaded Quickplay formatted files to the iTunes Library and they will all happily play in the Playlists there.

Default mine wot play either!!

I haven't been using limewire very long, and I tried to download one particular audio file, and instead of being seen like a little quicktime mp3 icon it is just blank like a document. I'm on a mac and I have itunes, but I'm happy using quicktime because the itunes interferes with my burner. I have downloaded other audio files since then and they seem to work fine. I tried your suggestion of going to my library, selecting the file and hitting launch, but nothing happens. I tried to dowload this particular file twice from different computers and neither time it would work!! I don't know what else to do, I'm hoping you could help.

Default Hi

If I may start with a gentle warning. This is a public forum and admitting that you may have illegally downloaded a named song is never a good idea. I suggest you edit your posting immediately. And speaking of copyright, the record companies have begun to seed the internet with spoof copies of the more favourite new tracks. These will either not play at all, or play only annoying or abusive messages. Or you may just have been unlucky and have suffered some data corruption during the download which will often prevent you from playing the track. Whatever the cause, I suggest that you throw the file away (I think you have already concluded that it is useless) and obtain a legal copy of it from somewhere.
