What version and OS are you using?
Did you search your hard drive for files with a similar name to see if the files sre going somewhere unexpected?

LoseingMyHair1 June 21st, 2003 12:54 AM

I dont know what version "os" i'm useing, actualy I dont know what "os" is, lol, but i'm useing verson 3.0.2 of limewire

OS=Operating System (windows98, Mac OSX 10.2.6, Linux RedHat, etc)
Did you search your hard drive?

I am no expert, but by my own experience I am thinking it is the new 3.02 version. On all earlier versions my downloads went to my progfiles\limewire\shared. Now after downloading 3.02 they are going to Documents&settings\user\shared. I tried to change my "saving directory" back to my LW\shared folder but it tells me it is an invalid directory. Oddly enough, it will let my change the directory to my lw\incomplete folder. It is a "drag" to go pull them out of LW default folder and move to my LW shared with all my other music.
Any suggestions? or do we wait for LW to fix this apparent bug?

i'v been searching my hardrive, but I havent found aneything, it must be going somewere, becouse when I try to download something that I downloaded and it dident go to the shared folder, it says "overwright existing file?" do you have aney ideas about were in my hardrive its going?

stief June 25th, 2003 01:58 PM

Look in the Limewire options for preferences about saving. That's where the files go. The overwrite warning means that the file is already downloaded into the folder set for saving in the options.

Mac users can use Sherlock or Find to search the hard drive. What kind of computer are you using?

i'm useing microsoft windows XP, anyway, I went to were you sayed, it says its going into "shared" I clicked "use default" to make shure, but it still dosent work

looks like you should reread denisew's reply. He can help you better than I can, because he's on Windows also. I'm on a mac so I can't help you find your shared folder on your hard drive.

Good luck, and cheers.

i am having the same problem as denisew. I cant change my directory back to LimeWire\Shared without getting a "invalid directory" error. Does anyone know of a solution to this???

denisew June 26th, 2003 02:55 PM

Hey stief, denisew is a she not a he:D and believe I am a novice. But I can share what I think I know or at least what I have experienced. If anything I say or do is incorrect, hopefully other will jump in.
On XP go to START > LOCAL DISCK (C) > then Document & Settings\User. If you don't find them there look in the other folders under Document & Setting/User, like INCOMPLETE. That is where I have been finding mine. I then move them to my desired folder of choice. I don't know if there is a danger with hackers or not, but I am leery about have a saved and shared folder in my Documents & Settings folder. But I might be paranoid.
I started trying to rename and move the Saved folder & the Shared folder and did have some success or so I thought. LW did allow me to change the SAVED setting to just Document & Settings. And it did let me change The SHARED setting to something else. But I have run into a bit of trouble. Ever since then, when I go to Turn Off computer it just restarts. At first I did not think it was related to LW, because after tweaking the Saved & Shared settings back to what I thought was original, Turn Off was working. Then I downloaded music again and now the computer is back to restarting when I choose Turn Off. I have to manually shut down. And this on a computer that is only 3 weeks old is frustrating to say the least. maybe it is coincidence, but it happened each time I downloaded music from LW. I'm looking at uninstalling LW 3.0 and re-installing to try and fix. But if this keeps up, there are other P2P programs. LW has been my favorite, until now. I don't know what the motive is behind the change, but I seem to not be alone in this issue.
Am open to any suggestions - thanks - denise

Sorry! But thanks for the correction and the help.

LW automatically moves complete and verified files out of the incomplete folder. I find it best to leave the incompletes alone.

Do you have LW set to quit immediately, or to wait for uploads/downloads to finish first? That can delay shutdowns.

Cheers. (I'm a he who keeps forgetting about the 90's).

I downloaded version 3.1.0, and I don't have the problem aney more, it must have just been a "bug" that limewire fixed, but thanks for all your guy's help anyway! -Peace
