Default only get "awaiting sources" message

Whenever I try to download any audio file, first it says that it is connecting, then immediately goes to "awaiting sources." I'm using limewire pro on mac os 10.2.4. Anyone know why this is going on?

Thumbs down Awaiting sources ... there is no solution!

The awaiting sources question must be one of the biggest nuisances to users of this system. This system does not work well at all. Blackbird's reply is to read the numerous threads regarding this problem. Here's my experience with this:

I sorted the 2278 postings by thread title, and most of the ones under the topic "awaiting sources" say absolutely nothing useful.

I've read the FAQ and it says nothing useful. I tried to find the reference to this link in the FAQ: "To minimize the chances of failed downloads, make your search more specific. You will have more pertinent search results from which to choose a download."

...and it goes to nothing in the FAQ.

Finally I found a big discussion in the Forum, under the title: "Could not Connect, Awaiting Sources" - Always?!

...and do you know what? It says nothing useful! Limewire users repeatedly complain that there's maybe a 5% success rate downloading, before it reverts to "awaiting sources" yet your tech support says JACK about solving the problem, except to refer you to a circular search for answers in the forum and the tech support, that says nothing!

And you wonder why I click "No" everytime Limewire asks me "Upgrade to Limewire Pro"?

This is all ridiculous. I have wasted more than an hour, to find out nothing. I waste even more time with repeated attempts to download.

Some suggestions that may help:

--Why not build something into Limewire software that ALERTS users before they disconnect, if others are connected to them? Maybe they get penalized if they disconnect uploads too often?
--Why not allow users to set up into their preferences an option so that when they DO want to quit Limewire, Limewire first allows all connected users to finish all uploads in progress, but does not allow new uploads to start?
--Why not improve the search system, so that our searches don't give so many false positives of all those people who aren't actually available to connect to?

This is just off the top of my head, but I'm sure you can come up with even more solutions to improve the download success rate. And you can also do a lot to improve the info available on your forum (for example, organize the Forum discussions by TOPIC rather than just leaving it all a jumbled mess), and your FAQ.

This might improve your sales, and your customer satisfaction. Right now, for me, it is close to zero, and I'm not going to upgrade to Limewire Pro.

Please forward this to your development team, not to mention your Forum moderators.

Thanks--Dionysus

Sorry I wasn't helpful enough for you.

The awaiting sources message means that the file you requested cannot be found from the location you requested it from. Often doing the same search will find the same file on the same location. I told you to go to the other thread because a zillion people ask this question and find the answers they need in the thread.

Secondly, the things you want are in limewire. Go to preferences and set your quit option to quit when all transfers are complete.

Your number, 5% dl success rate. *chuckles* I'm sorry, but that's quite wrong. First off, reading the forums gives you skewed data. People in the forums are here because they have problems. Major problems that they were unable to solve by themselves. You don't hear about the tens of thousands of people who use the limewire network successfully. You just hear about the few dozen we get in here.

Except I too couldn't find answers, have emailed help, have tried the FAQ to no avail. I've successfully downloaded about 5 files, all the others will not budge on 'awaiting sources' as in my mail further down this page, i've tried forcing IP, not forcing IP, I can't get the Shared folder to be added to those folders other users can browse, so I'm showing as sharing no files at all, even though I'm perfectly willing to share what's in Shared.

I bought Limewire Pro because of the damn popups and other garbage I was plagued with from kazaa et al, and I don't mind supporting P2P communities, however, I don't know why i got no email response, I'm not the most technical guy, which does not help, but still, I'm trying what they're telling me, and I'm not getting very far. One week in, 3 mp3's downloaded and a couple of pdfs. Awaiting Sources for all the rest.

Would someone also be good enough to tell me what those Connected Hosts are all about in that tab on my interface? Is this evidence I'm somehow connected?

Windows Laptop, DSL Router with Firewall (don't know anything about how its configured)

Read above for what the awaiting sources messages mean.

The connections tab shows who you are connected to in the network. http://www.milkdrinker.com/GnutellaToadHow4.swf is a good gnutella primer. Very easy to understand.

You're not getting files because of your firewall. You have to go to the utility or software controller of your router, and tell it to open port 6346 and forward your NAT. Your manual that came with your router should tell you how to do that using your utility or other software interface.

right, got most of my problems sorted thanks.

Tell me, with the awaiting sources, i had about 10 for over 3 days thatwouldn't budge. Is it just easier to cancel these and re-search for the stuff?

What you should do, when that message pops up, is to leave the files there, and go to the searched tab and click repeat search. The search will most likely find the same file in a different place and begin downloading it. If that doesn't work, pick a new file.
