slow downloads

I just sitched to LimeWire from Kazaa. It seems my downloads are going rather slow. I use the modem option. I don't know whether I should use option T1 or T3 or higher. I have a 56k modem. I just switched my internet acces to joi express. It is supposed to allow for faster downloads. Can anybody help me out?
