OK, I understand that. But (always a "but" ) when I find a file and the one who has it is DSL/CABLE and I am DSL what causes the slow speed? This is probably 75% of the time, not just a once in awhile thing. I'm not blaming anyone/body but hope someone can/will give me a hint about what I can do if anything.

Thanks.

dd

I may be confused but I'm not sure.

Well what do you know, d/l speed is superfast today (minimum 35k).

How quickly things change.

I really must learn to be more patient in future

There are good days and there are bad days, I could write now a whole story about how Gnutella is working and so on... but I think you learned your lesson.

What does this mean? How long did you wait? How many sources do you have? Give me some more details and I will try to explain why you are only downloading at 3Kb...

I have had DSL for about 3.5 months and, as I said, the d/l speed is very poor. Seldom do I get above 5kb/s. I am not sure what you mean about the number of sources.

Most of the time I look for files with 4 stars ****. Sometimes I will d/l a file with just two and they seem to be as fast as 4 stars.
And it doesn't seem to matter if the computer that has the file is modem or dsl/cable. or T1 as to the speed.

Just to reiterate I have Bellsouth.net dsl. The computer is a Dell Pentium III with 640megs RAM and a 160Gig h/d that is the #2 drive I use for storing the files. It has about 150gigs free.

Number of sources? I don't know.

Thanks.

I mean how many people offer the files you want to download? If there are only as few or only one "source" you canīt expect fast downloads. Try a popular file to test it.

Normally there are several people that are downling from one source, so you have to divide their upload speed.

These parts have nothing to do with the download speed!

So you are trying it for 3,5 months? And you were never over 5kb? Ask your provider if they are blocking the port 6346, this is the standard port Limewire is using. If they do you have to change your port. I had a similar problem with mine provider!
