Default Help urgently!!!! download problem!!!!

i recently became a limewire user and i am having trouble with downloads, i'm a broadband user, every time i download anything it works fine then after 5 - 10 mins my downlaod speed can go from 30kbs per second then move its way down to nothing (approx 30 seconds) it then turns the green circle in the bottom of the limewire window to red, bombs out my internet explorer and freezes the time on my modem counter, i then have to close all three applications down and reboot all of them then it seems to work fine again for another 5-10 mins then the process repeats itself!

please someone help me it is driving me crazy how do i stop this so i can leave the files downloading and not have to keep nursing them along?

Default Oh, OH... Maybe...

Hi, SteveUK...
You did not mention any details regarding your machine and operating system - always a good idea when you're hoping to get some help - but my first thought is that the problem sounds suspiciously as if it may be either the "svchost.exe" problem or a variant of the BlasterWorm...
Are you running either Windows 2000 or XP ?
If yes, check very carefully any messages which may pop up... You may not be seeing them for one reason or another...

Sorry, but I cannot recall right now the 'activity' which you can note in TaskManager if it's a worm problem in XP... It's hostDLL.exe or something like that... Must be more than a few others who have experienced the same and with better memories than me !

IF... If the problem is due to a virus/worm, don't panic... It's easy to fix. Come back here for more info if you can't resolve the problem, OK ?

No, its sure not a firewall problem. You wouldn´t be able to connect.

I never read about such problems so I can only guess. First a few questions:

1. Does this only happen while you are using Limewire? Or does it happen also when you are surfing or are using other Internet applications?

2. Is Limewire running every time 5 - 10 minutes? I mean did it happen sometimes earlier and sometimes later?

3. Did you tried other sharing application? Did they work?

this only happens when i'm using limewire otherwise the internet and modem work fine

i don't know exactly but it is a rough estimate, it could even start slowing around 2 minutes

3. Did you tried other sharing application? Did they work?

never tried them before no.

Ask your provider if he is blocking or cutting your connection while you are using Limewire, ask for the port 6346. It might also be a bug, ask the developers:

bugs@limewire.com

Tell them exatly what happened. Give them infos about your OS, your provider, modem and which software you are using while running Limewire. And of course the version of Limewire you are using.
