Question LW confused by internal IPs?

I've noticed that I never seem to download from anyone who's IP address is listed in the 192.168.1.* range. This is the same range as my own internal IP.

Is LimeWire thinking that this person is on my local LAN and trying to do a Pull download? Or, does the program recognize this situation and only try a Push request?

Those are other people on private IPs behind firewalls. If you are behind a firewall (you are) and they are behind a firewall, then you will never be able to download from them. You should be seeing a red IP address and a 1 star for those users.

Question

Greg,
Thanks for replying. I have port 6346 open on my firewall and forwarded to my workstation. So I should be able to do Pull upload-requests for other people. I should also be able to do Push download-requests, right?

I guess what I really want is a Push/Pull indicator for downloads and uploads so that I can confirm or deny that the different methods are working.

Lightbulb

Greg,
I try "testing" and have this question/observation:

- I tried downloading from a 192.168.1.* location (marked in red letters) but that had 3 stars
- after an initial "Waiting for reply" message, the download started but it now said the location was "***.***.***.*"

So, does this mean the other person was behind a NAT and was not using "Force IP" to advertise their external IP, but that the download proceeded as a Push (from them to me)?

Also, you said that one-star indicated that both of us are behind firewalls, but since I have my external IP advertised this shouldn't apply! Is this a future enhancement, or is there more to the one-star rating?

Thanks again for your help,
Tony
