Corrupt files evreywhere Hi, I seem to have the same problem. 9 out of 10 are corrupted. I know how to delete them and everything, that is not the problem. What I would like to know is how come we have so much damage files? I even started to suspect my computer, firewall etc. because I can't believe that most of my downloads are damaged. Does anyone know the answer? I have used limewire in the past and have nothing but love for the program, but if I keep getting all these corrupted files I don't know if I can stay this loving :) |
ugnio: It is possible a firewall/nat router is damaging your dwnld packets. Particularly if you have several of them in the path. Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version, 2. What firewalls you have, 3. ram, 4. HDD space available, 5. Connection type, 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers, 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? I'm particularly interested in 2, 6 & 7. |
corrupt files The reason the files are being corrupted, and I am surprised that no one has said anything yet about it, is because the songs are being downloaded at a rate faster then the server will allow. The songs are being stripped from the user across the p2p network at some point and this is corrupting the file. The reason it seems to be the T3 users is that when you download songs from them, they are sending them faster than the server will allow. watch your transfer rate. The more people that have the same song, your transfer rate goes well into the 200 kb\s. This has happened on other networks as well. |
I'm getting all corrupt files myself. I use a PBG4. I went to one of the sites to detect if I use NAT and it says I don't. I did that example test thingy in Preferences> Bug Reports..and it came out "false" i really need help |
The point alone_alive makes might be true or not. But for mp3's have a look at their bit rate & file size. When you see the bit rate is different but the file size is the same you know it's going to be corrupt. And most of those originate from T3 sources! Some people never think to notice about those things. N00b if you have some problems give us some details. We can't see thru walls or use mental telepathy. |
what country spends a large amount of money in investigations? USA what is a connection that costs alot of $$$? a T3 or Higher connection what company has to do with USA's money, the internet, and music? RIAA what kind of songs are mostly corrupt? new songs what songs make the most money and which one are most popular? new songs my conclusion: I bet some of those songs are from the RIAA... |
download restarting sumone help me today i jsut finished downloadin a file and when it wuz verifyin it it just started downloadin again the file wuz 548.3 MB and i only have a 56K connection ! help me pleaz |
i_hate_this it won't start dwnlding from zero. Preobably from about 70-80%. It means that something in the file is missing. Perhaps just a bit or byte. If it doesn't correct itself the 1st re-attempt. Then it may well be a corrupt file (from the source itself) so I'd dump it & search for alternatives. |
I've only been using limewire for a few months, but.... Upon reading this entire thread start to finish I looked at the connections and see that every single song is T3 or higher. I DON'T WANT T3 OR HIGHER. I have it on show all speeds but I DON'T GET ANY OTHER SPEEDS. you cannot tell me that IS NOT a limewire problem. that is most certainly a limewire fault. I'm using 4.2.6 and am a free user. WTF IS WITH THIS PROGRAM!? |
Dear the person above me that said its limewires fault, I have been a free limwire user since practicly the beginning. So wat i was gonna say is that this is wat the RIAA wants.... they want all of us to think. that limewire, kazza (lite), bearshear, everything is bullcrap!!!!! well its not. I mean seriously. if it was the program then if u download lets say... ACDC or somin it would work. but if u download....green day bolavord of broken dreams.... Well you know. If you fall victim to this RIAA attak then wat will become of us. We'd have to buy everysingle cd!!!!! (no0o0o0o0o) Be strong and let this ---corupt war settle down. if the RCIAA see that were weak theyll do much more than put corrupt files on the network....But if we r strong... The RCIAA will stop.... Even if the RCIAA is a strong orginization.... we are strong too!!! :) |
i meant it's something wrong with limewire if it's only t3 or higher files that come up... i didn't mean this whole conspiracy is limewire's fault sorry for the misunderstanding |
**** Lame Wire |
I have a fix which worked for me so I am going to share it. -Go to Tools -Click Options -Expand Filters -Click Hosts -In the filter hosts box, add these to the list: Code: 66.*.*.* You can now search and you will have less T3 or Higher in your results. When I search now, I only get about 1 or 2 in my list. * Filtering these hosts will give you less results but also a less chance of downloading corrupt files * |
I found it under Preferences. go to the far left menu,Limewire, and click on Preferences. There will be a list. Click on View the Pop UPs, and then click the box that says restore defaults. |
I did waht DeaDly suggested but I now get NO RESULTS for any of my searches. What in the name of God is going on here...? I'm also pleased to note that Limewire admins are taking such an interest in their unhappy users... |

LW itself has no control over what files users put up for offer or choose to dwnld. This affects the entire Gnutella Network, not just LW but any other p2p app that uses the Gnutella network. Here's some background info.: Quality of Content on the Network & also Fake movies & why So this gives you an idea about how business scam the network & how some other organisations try to fight against p2p (such as the RIAA) who load up corrupt files for the most popular sought after to try to dampen people's enthusiasm for dwnlding music, etc. Lots of people do not title their files properly. For that reason, if you vary your searches you can often find the files (or other sources of the files) that you're after. Also see Corrupt mp3’s: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=28801 about detecting which files are corrupt. Check the file's bit-rate v's size to see which ones look correct. If you see some that are the same bit-rate but different size then one of them will be corrupt & the other not. It's at times like these when you'e wanting to dwnld those popular files that dial up modem users can be very handy to have around. Backed up with multiple users/sources you can often still get them at reasonable speeds. |
I click CTRL + A to select all available songs for download and click on download, and every single one of them EVERY SINGLE ONE is corrupt. Every single one of them is T3 or Higher. I've done what's suggested here and nothing works. |

Comrade Wasabi: Try something that's not top 10 selling type of music. Even try a very old song just for experiment's sake. It sounds to me as though you do very limited types of searches. Try doing General searches. Just type in the title or artist or and artist - title. you should get more results! baker992964: Read this thread carefully & make a note of all links & suggestions. |
Hm... If those T3 connections are RIAA spoof files, is it possible to beat them at their own game by downloading more than they can afford? I mean, hell, they have to pay bandwidth costs too, wethere they are the RIAA or not. So maybe we can stage a "**** Over The RIAA" week. Find a T3 peer that has a lot of bad files and seems to be RIAA, and download the crap out of it. Just a thought. IF this is possible, I wouldn't mind setting up a website or something to organize it. But then again, would be kinda hard. |

refining blocked hosts list further to Deadly's advice to block the IP addresses of certain hosts. A bit of careful filtering and experimentation can refine this method somewhat. A slightly more specific list of blocked hosts that get rid of most 'bad' T3 or higher sharers is: 38.118.*.* 38.117.*.* 66.54.74.* 66.54.73.* 66.54.72.* 66.54.76.* Note: not all hosts with 66.*.*.* IP addresses are T3 or above. I didn't find I needed to block the 68.*.*.* hosts, but since all this must depend on what you search for perhaps it is needed. Someone with more time on their hands could compile a better list. If you get the specific IP address of a bad host you can search http://ws.arin.net/cgi-bin/whois.pl to find out some more information about it. Usually no more than which internet service provider they use. FYI the 66.54.7* addresses all go to this ISP: OrgName: NHI Networks OrgID: NHINE Address: 530 W 6th St. Address: Suite 300 City: Los Angeles StateProv: CA PostalCode: 90014 Country: US Perhaps they know what's going on? |
Keep in mind there's a lot of T3 users out there that are not in that group of sources with corrupt files. Also many may have dynamic ip's. So p2p4ever be sure those addresses only apply to known sources of corrupt files. |
point taken lord of the rings. To make things clear my list of blocked hosts was intended to block out ALL T3 or higher hosts -some of which certainly had bad files on, but some of which may not have. It's only a small refinement on Deadly's list but it does allow some non-T3 hosts which his list blocks. I notice that the latest version of gnucleus which I played around with has included in it a long list of blocked IPs along with interesting reasons why they're blocked (i.e. belong to 'sony music', 'is an anti-piracy site' etc). I'm not sure if this is directly linked to the problem of corrupt files. Anyway, the list is not comprehensive enough as it allows plenty of hosts with corrupt files through. I'm getting close to the limits of my knowledge here, but I'm presuming that when a host uses a dynamic IP, the IP keeps changing so that the host cannot be blocked by blocking any one IP address. If hosts with bad files are using dynamic IPs the only way to block them is to block a range of IP addresses (to cover all the IP addresses they're using). This always has the risk of blocking some hosts who don't have corrupt files. The trick is to narrow down the range of blocked IPs as far as possible and to specifically allow IPs that are known to be from hosts without corrupt files. At some point it becomes a trade off between allowing bad files and allowing wider searches. If people know the IPs of T3 or higher hosts that dont have corrupt files on them then please post a list so that these hosts may be allowed (i.e. added in limewire options). |
corrupt files it seems about 3 days ago all the songs I try to download are corrupt. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I noticed that the corrupt songs are of 32 kbps as opposed to the normal 128 or higher. I make sure that the quality is at 128 when i download but they still come in at 32 kbps.I know its not my computer because i had 2 friends try on their computers and they had the same result. does anyone know whats going on and how to fix it??????????? |
Check this out: Corrupt mp3’s & make a note of the suggestions re: size v's bit-rate & also source. I suppose these might also help as to how the network is affected by not only the RIAA: A. Quality of Content on the Network & also B. Fake movies (or other) & why Try to preview those files you have doubts about!!! ;) |
As far as blocking goes take a quick look at this: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...198#post107198 Somebody else posted a great thread within the past few mths about this. Can somebody find it for me? I dropped my glasses somewhere! It was aiming at exactly this issue!!! They made some good points ...& advice ... Free favour for anybody who finds the right one (but only the right one)! But within limits of course! :o Does that mean I'm tired or embarrassed? I'm refering to finding the addresses of these types of companies such as the RIAA. That's what the post I'd like to find was about. At least that was my impression. I have a suspicion the author may have been from Singapore but I could be wrong. They have some great programmers & system ... from there! |
currupted files Even though I still encounter corrupted files everyone's help has been invaluable. Thanks for spending the time for the greater good. |
Re: Corrupt Files Setting This is some crap. I have tryed everything from changing options to upgradeing. I think I am about to try a different client. If I could I would post alot of other good links for those who have corrupt file problems. It seems limewire is loosing its grip with good file shareing. The majority of these files are good and limewire itself is making them unplayable. What is the use of shareing good files if they dont come out good on the other side. This whole thing has me upset as hell. Phuk it I give up time to uninstall and move on to something bigger and better. |
I been able to get about 90% of what I want, and I feel the problem lies not with Lime Wire or how it 'crunches numbers'. I've tried other programs and have had the most success with Limewire. More than one reason for that I'm sure. All the advice on this forum is great though and if integrated into how one goes about downloading (atleast in my case) the success rate is greatly increased. |
btw, I'm using the free version of Lime Wire |

As for the other points YoMaster suggested, I don't think they've done much if any research about this on the forum let alone this thread. eg: How can one song be say 5 MB in size with a bit-rate of 160 kbps & another offered by T3's that is 5 MB size but 320 kbps. That doesn't make sense if you think about it does it! But when you downld the 320 kbps from the T3 it turns out to run for 30 mins of silence or something sinister like that & the mp3 player showing it having a bit-rate of 32 kbps. You can't tell me that file was in good shape before it was downloaded. It was offered as a corrupt file for sharing for a very deliberate reason. Now who would want to do that. :( |
I find that if I download anything older than say six months it's completely possible -- I've downloaded almost every song Disturbed has ever made and it worked. I downloaded recently about 15 Beatles songs and htey all worked just fine. It's teh new stuff, the stuff that'll really sell that isn't working... |
I've found that if you decrease your download bandwidth you will have better success downloading. I've nearly downloaded the whole American Idiot album using this tactic. Only Song I can't get is American Idiot. Someone Else try it and see if it works for them. Ps: I have mine set at 30 kbs. Later |
Time to find another p2p software! |
i was using kazaa and was having the same trouble with corrupt files. it wouldn't tell me that they were corrupt, but they were 20 minutes long and complete silence. so obviously, it's not just limewire. i read this whole thread too, since i was having trouble with limewire and corrupt files. i tried everything everyone said but nothing helped. i was trying to download john mayer's "daughters" which is top ten. so, i purposely misspelled it as "john mayor" and i actually got a T1 that wasn't corrupt. just an idea that worked for me... |
It's Work I did What you said And I think it's working Thanks |
Corrupt files I have to say I am not impressed with LimeWire. I have spent the last two hours trying to download music and each one give me a File Corrupt message. Is this typical. I am using Mac OS X and have never had problems in the past with other downloads. Can I use something other than LimeWire? |
Corrupted Files I have had the same problem as many other people.... some songs are designated as corrupt and I don't know how to fix it. It seems unlikely that every listing for a song is corrupt. I had the same problem as others about it automatically deleting the corrupted files and fixed it. I had to go under Preferences, View, Pop-ups, and check the box there to fix mine. However, once I was able to download the corrupted files, I still cannot play them. They are several times larger than normal and silent. Do we have a way to fix this yet? Please HELP!!! |
Furious with this thing I am very dissapointed with limeware. I bought and paid for Etomi it sucked. I called and the young lady said oh do Limeware. Well music files are downloading fine but every single movie I tried is loading then when I click to play it says File corrupt???????? why are we charged for this when Napster worked better. I am so tired of this its rude to pay for a site that doesnt work Some folks have a file that says its a movie say The Fockers Part 1 of 2 and when you download it , actully its their website movie. They are selling things?? Also last night I dowloaded What said was The Fockers and its the Village, now problem is part 1 is corrupt stops after it shows who is in movie. Part two is fine?? what sense does this make |
the only songs that seem to be corrupt are the ' T3 or higher' speed songs..does someone who does not want us downloading these songs go in and corrupt them?? |
Most likely the RIAA or music industry are trying to kill people's enthusiasm for downlding the most popular music by offering corrupt versions from those T3 sources. See this about file size v's bit-rate: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=28801 |
More Corruption I've been trying for about a week now to download two files (primarily): mp3s of [Edit] and [Edit], and *every* copy I try and download, no matter the size, the bitrate, the number of people sharing the file, every last one of them arrives and I get the "file corrupt" message. What I'm really angry about is that I upgraded from to Limewire Pro specifically because I couldn't get any kind of customer support as a regular old user... so I shelled out the extra money to access customer support and fired off an e-mail asking if this was a widespread problem because it seemed to crop up overnight for me. Well, it says "we'll get back to you shortly" and that was 6 hrs ago, and now apparently I have my answer from checking these forums. What I'd like to know is how do I get my freakin' money back, because I *thought* I was paying for 6 months of the "high quality" service (actually I thought it was a one-time fee good until the collapse of the internet or the file sharing network, whichever came first), and it's been about 2 1/2 weeks and it's starting to look like this program's gone lame on me and I can't download anything that'll play. Whoever's running the thing, hello??? Repair or refund, your customers are entitled to one or the other, I think! No need to mention the specific details of any files unless you may possibly have a warning about 'dangerous' files such as Dialers or whatever... The Forum Rules are prominently posted as Announcements in every forum here. As far as your problems are concerned, please have a good search around these forums as there are many, many posts referring to the problems that others have experienced with the latest LimeWire upgrades/installs... I am sure you will find the solutions you need... ;) |
i have some corrupt files but it is impossible to delete them... there is no delete button when i right click and if i try to manually drag them to trash can they dont move, help plz |
wait... all the T3 or higher files are corrupt??? |
Disturbs me how little input LW themselves are putting into the issue of filtering and/or stopping these files from coming through. Even if it is the RIAA or the IRS or the Swedish Mafia or who the heck ever, the Limewire server isn't run by babies. Whichever way you look at it, it doesn't seem like the people who collect the $$$ are putting much effort into this at all. Granted, I have seen a big improvement in my search quality by trying out some of the suggestions made by some of you guys. But that's not the point. The moderators here are so used to washing their hands of problems and practicing blind faith in their beloved little program, they're now doing it without thinking. Come on Limewire, you're wasting our f****** time. |
These corrupt files only appear with songs that have only just been released ie. a couple months ago I couldn't get any of Simple Plan & stuff – Meaning, that if you wait a while, the industry is going to get the Cd sales it wants and move on to some other, more current title Just a thought hmmmm ... The only problem now is with ppl who leave the corrupt files in their sharing folders |
oops Sry – Should've read the rules BEFORE the post |

Yes it does seem to be with the most recently released songs. Just where possible be a little wary of T3 sources. Not all T3 sources are bad but make a note of the File Size Versus Bit-Rate can often identify those corrupt ones. |
