It says can't "recognize file"!?!?!?

After I've downloaded a song, when I try to play it, I get an error message that says it can't play the file because it can't recognize that file type. But the files are all .mp3s!! I already have Kazaa, and I use Itunes as well, and those are all .mp3 files - they play just fine, whether in the Kazaa or Itunes media players, or in my windows media player.

I also tried finding the file on my hardrive and directly opening it in Windows Media player, but it told me it was a Napster file and that I would have to find it and buy it to hear it.

I don't understand why it won't recognize regular .mp3 files like the ones I play all the time!! I tried changing the directory to different places on my hard drive, but no matter where I save the songs, it still won't play them. (I get the same message when I try to "launch" them for a sample.) Does anyone have any advice!?! I really can't figure this out.

Hi...

Your post is a little confusing as to the number of files that you are finding to be a problem...
Is it only one file, as you mentioned re: the message from WMP ?

My first guess is that the file(s) in question are 'locked'...
Meaning that there is some form of a 'security' included in the file that can only be 'unlocked' with a 'code'... Sounds as if you need to pay money to Napster2 (or some other criminal org.) in order to receive the 'unlock code'.

btw... If you ever happen to come across any files being shared that purport to be 'keygens' (key generators), be VERY cautious before 'opening' them... There is a very high probability that such files will actually be what are called 'Diallers'.
'Diallers' make telephone calls that are charged at extremely high rates and are intended to cheat you out of money.

Perhaps there will be others responding to your post...
I hope so as it would be interesting to hear more about the file 'locks' and payment system used by Microsoft, errr, sorry, Intel... no... MSNBC... no, General Electric ? Nope... Oh, yeah... ALL of the above, and some others, who happen to be the real owners of Napster2 !!!
