Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Default Files stuck in queue...

I've got three downloads "stuck" in my queue. They say "Need more sources" but if I select them and hit "Find more sources", messages pop up "Error: You are already downloading foo", "Error: You are already downloading bar", "Error: You are already downloading baz" and none of them change to "Waiting 300s for sources" as normally occurs when "Find more sources" is hit. What is causing this and how do I fix it? I'm tempted to yell at my monitor when these messages pop up, something like "NO I AM NOT ALREADY DOWNLOADING IT, IT'S JUST SITTING HERE SAYING IT NEEDS MORE SOURCES, YOU IDIOT MACHINE!" :P

Uh, instead of wasting your time doing something as meaningless as insulting inanimate objects (well, not quite), try killing the dlds and then seraching again for the files. You will know which files it is because next to the file there will be a sheet of paper torn in half. Re-dld these files and see what happens.
Otherwise, just kill the dlds and go to Library and Incompletes and resume them from there (try the first suggestion first)

OK -- but why is it doing this in the first place? Why should I have to go to the bother of finding the files a second time when I already found them once? Why don't they behave like other queued downloads?

Your suggestion is worse than useless! Going to the Library tab and clicking Incomplete makes Limewire say it's "encountered a problem" and exit! It doesn't even give me an option to cancel what I did rather than exit! Last time I follow any of *your* advice! I had search results open that I won't be able to recover now, because of your worthless and damaging advice and because whoever designed limewire was too STOOOPID to think anyone might ever want to save search results/host browse results for use again later. (Admittedly, the files might not be located at the same IP addresses later but nothing stops you selecting them and hitting Find Sources...)

That you again Reggie? Thought you had given up on LW.

murasame's suggestion is good---unless you are trying to resume 100's of incompletes on XP again.

Who in the heck is Reggie? It certainly isn't my name. Are you thinking of this forum or of Archie comics, for Chrissake?

Anyway, murasame's suggestion is NOT good and you did NOT read my whole post. Or rather, you read more than was actually there! All I did was
  • Click the Library tab
  • Click the folder icon that says "Incomplete".

That is ALL that I did. I didn't select anything or try to resume anything. Just those two mouse clicks produced what surely can't be correct and accepted behavior in the L/W client. Software should never exit without giving the user the choice to cancel the exit. In fact, there shouldn't be any dialog boxes in Limewire that don't have a "Cancel" button right on them, or a "No" button, which safely returns the user to the main UI without doing anything drastic (such as exiting, or removing queued downloads, or...). However I just bloody well saw one, and there's probably more of the damn things lurking in there somewhere...

In fact, "kill download" should generate a confirmation prompt with a "Cancel" button, and either "clear completed" also should, or it should not remove "awaiting sources" downloads or any besides "File Corrupted" and "Complete" downloads. The omission of these confirmation prompts has, over many versions of Limewire, gone from notable to glaring simply because someone should have spotted and corrected the oversight by now. And how's about providing a way to save/bookmark search results and back up the download queue for those times when someone does accidentally hit "clear completed" or some such?

'Reggie' is what I call unregistered posters like http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=25755

murasame's suggestion is often useful, and has nothing to do with the incorrect exit in your setup.

You on XP?

"Has nothing to do with"? Considering that it happened when I did part of what murasame suggested -- clicked the Library tab and clicked Incomplete -- and nothing else, it seems to me to have everything to do with murasame's suggestion. Unless you're going to claim, against all evidence, that there's no causal connection whatsoever with my clicking those items and what immediately happened without further user intervention by me.

Yes -- why? If you're going to claim that Limewire is incompatible with XP, then I'm going to tell you to damn well MAKE it compatible since it certainly should bloody well work on the OS with the largest installed base/market share if it's supposedly "cross-platform" as the Web site repeatedly states!

Don't blame others if your PC is beyond crap, man.

Geez. You try to help and what do you get? A word of thanks? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Just some guy who wastes energy to insult you instead of trying to calmly figure out a way outta his problem...
This "suggestion" has worked for many, many, many (and many more) users who have had similar problems, so I don't see why, just because your PC has problems, you should blame it on the suggestion (or me). This could just as easily have happened if you clicked just about anytyhing.

Oh, and those stoopid developers you talk about? I bet you didn't even think about the fact that they have been so kind as to take time of their lives to make one of the best p2p apps out there (if not THE best) just to recieve donations from people who are willing to go from Pro and insults from ingrates like you. Befoe insulting them, think about how many hours you've spent trying to develop a complicated application that others will be able to use. FOR FREE.
Also think about how variable a computer configuration can be from user to user. Are you telling me that you didn't expect a few bugs to come up? This application was not made exclusively for you. It's peer-to-peer and its developers have worked hard to make it compatible with most configurations. FOR FREE.
Now, think about how much money you spent for this application: At best (if you went for Pro) it would be around 20 bucks. Otherwise, it was FREE.

You damn ingrate.

Ingrate? Me? I rather think it is you who expects too much. What did you think would happen if you told someone to do something without telling them that it causes the program to exit and lose things like search results they had open? Thank you? Indeed, why would selecting those items act like issuing an exit command? It certainly isn't obvious in the user interface that a folder icon next to "incomplete" is actually a command to exit -- it looks more like something you select and browse than something that acts as a command at all! But since it evidently requires restarting to use that feature, and restarting is forced once you click that icon, without any option to back out by hitting a "Cancel" button or whatever, it behooves anyone recommending clicking that thing to warn people ahead of time that this will happen. Something you did not deign to do.
