Can you supply all your details incl. LW version as requested here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/announ...?s=&forumid=29
It's like ringing the vet to ask for advice on your pet but not saying whether it's a cat, dog, fish, snail, boogy monster or what.

My apologies!

Sorry I didnt give you all the details as I have said before I am new to this and sometimes dont realise when I dont post right!
Any way here are the details I should have put:
1 Limewire 4.07.....p2p client
2windows98se
3pentium2 ....486ram.....10gb h/drive
4 6ft tall,3.5ft in my wheel chair hehehehehehe sorry I had to start being myself and have a laugh!
5 When I am using Limewire I am quite happily downloading and uploading and it just freezes, I cant get anything to happen and hit, ctrl, alt, del .....all this does is leave me with a black screen so I end up having to switch off and reboot.
That is all that happens.
Please note my son is just about to upgrade my chip and mother board and also he is putting in a 40gb h/drive as well.

I am really grateful for any help you can come up with Lord of the Rings.

Regards
Pirate

My 1st thought is it sounds like a java issue. Check to see you have the most recent version of Java. If that doesn't solve the issue, uninstall LW & reinstall. See how you go. We want to keep the ship afloat.

re: freezing

RUNNING WINDOWS XP SER.PACK 2.THE 4.6 VERSION RAN FINE AND THE NEW VERSION IS THE WORST. It freezes everytime I use it. Yes I have the latest Java.I read post after post on same problem, freezing. There no way everyone who has freezing problems need to download new version of Java for fix . Limewire has a problem with there new software version.

memory 1 gig ddr
CPU 3.4 pentium 4 Hyper thread
Why would previous version run with know problems?

Yes I have removed and re-installed several times .

I connect using cable.

Did you consider thawing LW out ... defrosting it so it doesn't keep freezing. lol

Hyper thread rings a bell to me ... over doing the cpu. Potentially an issue in itself.

Did you try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire

Also, did you update your graphics card drivers recently?

Do you use the Resume button on all your downlds? If yes, try to refrain from doing so & the problem won't happen.

Geez this is an old Post.

But anyhow --- I will try and explain this the best I can. There have been several ways to fix this besides java. Some have rolled back display drivers to previous version or updated them.

Some have updated the drivers on there chipsets.

Some have done routine maint. ie. defrag, disk cleanup, virus scans. etc.

Some have removed and re-installed LimeWire and Java. Some have either upgraded java or used a previous version.

Some have even had to remove and re-install there operating system.

Windows seems to be a more complex operating system when trying to figure things out. It has basicly automated most functions, which the average user seem to like.

I have been running LimeWire since version 4.2.6. Have made every upgrade, and haven't had but a few problems, which were easily fixed.

I have when I was a new user especially, but as recent as a week ago, have d/l some nasty things by them being mislabeled. That is why I have all the security features I do. Call it being paranoid or whatever. I err on the side of caution.

Other than doing routine maint. I have not had a problem with LimeWire running it in English language or in Japanese Language.

I have created problems with LW, when trying to duplicate problems that other users have had, so I might be able to assist in fixing the problem. The only time I have got this machine to freeze was when I was experimenting with java and memory usage. I lowered my VM for java to much.

See it can be a wide variety of issues when dealing with a windows operating system. There is just no quick fix for this freezing problem. If the developers can't duplicate it, how can they fix it.

Just as in my case I have not had this problem, except when I intentionaly caused it.

Hope this explained the complexity of this problem.

re: freezing

It"s quiet simple if I"m using the older version and know problems till upgrade to new version. A P2P sharing program like Kazaa and many others you just download and open, done deal,Maybe I should remove or tweak the mother board.Get real!
I
I will also enlighten you that audio searches with limewire ,old or new versions are poor. I will stick to Kazaa lite. Open and search its that easy.Thank you for the reply and list of all the tweaks needed to use Limewire.
