Default File permissions?

I have been a limwire user for a few months now but ive run into a little problem. I have a 3400mhz pentium laptop running xp sp1. Using wireless thru a cablemodem. I have 1 hd that i partitioned into 3 drives. I dragged my shared and incomplete folder onto another hd due to space issues. under the options tab, i tried to set limewire to look for the folders but i get an error. it says that my save directory is not valid or i might not have permission to write to it. so then I select the correct directory and then I get another error. That one says that limewire was unable to write a necessary file because I do not have the necessary permissions. Your prefernces may not be maintained the next you start limewire. Limewire may behave in unexpected ways. This is version 4.0.8 ... I tried to uninstall and reinstall and it does the same thing. then I tried the beta 4.1.2 and it still does the same thing. tried to reinstall and no change. All of my other prgs run fine and everything else is good with the os. Any ideas?? are there any registry keys that are left over aftre the uninstall?? I tried to look around but I cant figgure this out. Thanks

I'm not the right person to answer this b/c I'm not a pc person but I'll just get things started. Actually I don't think this is a LW issue so much as a system issue. Certainly on a mac it's possible to save to alternate partitions & HDD's (I do so myself.)

If you’re changing both your dwnld & shared folders locations, try setting it up from scratch (at least initially.) Take these suggestions step by step! Until an experienced pc windows person arrives on the scene (hopefully), try going back to your options-Saving & select restore default & press apply. Then go back again, press Add & direct your way thru your volumes & directories & create a new folder from within LW. See if it allows you to do this & press apply (fingers crossed.) Do the same thing with your Shared folder(s). Go to options-Sharing & then create a new folder in the new location. If that works, transfer your shared files to this folder. Go back to LW & open your Lib window select this new shared folder & press Refresh. Just for the time being leave your incomplete files out. Start using LW & see how things go. Then reAdd your other shared folders. If that works OK, re-add your incomplete files to your incomplete folder (it could be in a new location so search to check.) Actually I don’t know if this is great advice, but it’s what I’d try.
