download probs I have just subscribed to limewire pro. everything I am trying to download is either queued or the host is busy. so far I am very disapointed with pro, I had far more success with the basic. I have sorted my options, and done all the usual things. has anyone got limewire pro? if so how do you rate it? I have only managed to download 1 thing since last night. |

thanks for your help thanks so much for your time to reply, your information was very valuable, I had no idea what all the queue/host busy really meant, so thank you for enlightening me. I will certainly go into my tools and try out what you have told me. thanks once again. Nina |

Download Problems I'm running LimeWire client 4.2.6 Pro under Windows 2000 Pro, with Firefox as my browser via a DLS modem. When I select something to download, it almost invariably winds up with 'afaiting sources' and seems to just die there. I thought LimeWire was supposed to retry, but my computer is on 24/7 and nothing happens until I click 'resume', usually with little or no change. The suggestion to 'kill download' and renew the search means a lot of time and effort finding the item again. as far as 'manually' searching, I'm not sure what that means. Mayhaps, someone can help me with that. Dev |

Manually searching means to search for the item again. Easy to do if you have autocomplete set on. Else Right-click on the file & set it to search again. There's a no. of reasons you may have lost connection with that source. They might have gon offline, they may have limited upld slots & bandwidth (this applies to all connection types), they may be going thru an isp that filters p2p use to reduce bandwidth use, etc. To kill the downld I meant to kill it off the download window but reselect it from the search results. That of course if it happens whilst you still have that search result available. Else do a search for the file using LW. If it doesn't continue you can try to kill & reselect it to downld making sure you select the exact same file (same name & size.) Another alternative is to try downlding more than one of that file until one succeeds. As for the Resume/Find sources button. That's fine if it stops downlding during that session & perhaps stopped b/c your LW was busy or the source became busy, but I don't recommend doing it on too many files. Doing so uses a lot of LW's resources & slows LW down. It may also affect your connection quality & even slow your computer down. Some people open LW, then resume everything, this I would not recommend at all. It has the above effect & results in the files queuing for much longer. In my experience I dont need to search for new sources except for some occasions when LW needs some 'baby-sitting' to get things started. And I only once in a while use the resume/find sources function. But certainly a manual search (searching for the topic again) is the most effective way of finding fresh & new sources. It beats all the others in effectiveness. At least 2/3 if not 3/4 times I open LW, I can just leave it to itself. I come back an hour later & some files are already downlding perhaps from multiple sources. Here I think it really helps if you have people uploading from you. And I tend to have people uplding from me very soon after I open LW (even before all the shared files & folders have been accounted for by LW; ie: filenames turned to black so they are available for sharing.) |

When I right-click on a file, all I get for options is: 'kill download', 'resume', and 'preview file'. The options 'chat with host' and 'browse host' are, of course, greyed out. I'm not sure how to check if I'm set to 'autocomplete'. I will look for it. One more thing, is there a way to tell if you are being downloaded from. Thanks, Dev |

In other words, 're-search', right? Nothing one can do once the files list in 'downloads'? I haven't finished a download in 3 days. Everything just sits in the download section and seems to laugh at my feeble attempts to get them going. Also, what do you say about my question of knowing when someone is accessing my system, for downloads. I have seen the 'monitor', which seems to show soneone or someones, scrolling. Just what I am seeing, I don't know. Dev |

It is possible to right-click a file in the downlds pane & select Force Resume. But I do not recommend doing it! I'd suggest using the LW Search function to search the topic again. Yes sometimes LW needs some 'baby-sitting' where you need to manually search to get files to continue downlding, else try at a different time of day/week. So you have a choice of: 1. Search 2. Resume/Find Sources 3. Force Resume in that oprder of preference for the health of LW & the network. For manual search try different types of searches. eg: for an mp3; instead of an audio search, try using a general type search & vary your search criteria. Search by artist or title or part of each. Some people downld more than one to improve their chances of a successful downld for at least one of them. Once that has succeeded & it's ok, they then delete the other from the list. It often helps if somebody is uploading from you so you can get better search & downld results. In fact, 2/3 or 3/4 times I open LW, if I just leave it to its own devices, there will be some files that will eventually start to continue downloading on their own. This might take 15 mins or maybe over an hour. Depending on how many incomplete files you have & how many shared files you have, LW can take quite some time to settle down properly. The monitor window show what files are being uploaded from you. If you go to the Library window, at the far right you'll see which files have been downloaded or showed up in other people's search results. (Look under the Uploads & Hits columns.) Since I last spoke, I have had no change whatsoever with my chosen downloads. Resume makes no difference. It just returns to the status quo. I have one of 7 files in the download list, with only 1 having done anything, and that has remained at 14%. I can understand that there might be some problem, some of the time, but I seem to have virtually no lick at all anymore. Yes, I have had success in the past, slow but finished. I have not had success, now, for at least 3 days. As I said, I'm running the Pro version, and I just feel that I'm either missing something or I have a problem. Thanks, Dev |
