New Modem Installed, Download Speed Problem Hello, Up until a few days ago I was downloading on a regular cable modem and was averaging 40 kbps per download, give or take depending on the peer I was connected with. Now, with a new wireless ethernet card, I am averaging 5 kbps no matter who I am sharing with. I have checked all of my options to try and optimize bandwidth, but so far I cannot pinpoint the reason for such a dramtic slowdown of download speed. The two computers I have networked with the wireless router are both now at this speed. Is there something I need to do to get the two networked computers to run at my former fast speed? I show an excellent connection at the bottom of the screen, but I still cannot get a fast download to save my life. Any help or info on solutions greatly appreciated.... Thanks, Brandon |
I don't know if this will help but do a forum search for 'wireless' (without the inverted commas.) Hope this leads to a solution to your problem. I'm not really up on connections (unless it's a basic issue) so I'll leave that to others. |
I figure you didn't buy a second PC with your new connection, but just to make sure: did you still use the (same) connection for two separate comps prior to the wireless switch? |
Reply No. Actually, we had an older modem that was only used on the computer we now use as the "central" one. The one with the new wireless router. The other computer was never used to dowload much of anything as it had a 56k dial-up modem. |
I think your problem is that if you use the older modem, all the computers connected to it might want to get a piece of the speed even though the computer might not be used, try getting a better internet connection and modem maybe that'll help speed it up |
Another question: when you say 'we', are you implying that it isn't at home that you have your comps? If it is at home, why would you want to dld with two different PC at the same time (unless you're not doing that)? Focus on dlding with one of them (it will probably be faster). Unless, someone else in the family (company) owns the second comp and wants to surf the net at the same time you dld stuff... |
Nope.... I'm not downloading on two computers at once. The main cpu, my father's, is the one with the wireless router, which connects my cpu to the dsl. |
I just did a quick search & this was what I came up with, but I don't know if it'll be of any help: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=23443 http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=23369 Back to murasame's corner (or anybody else?) |
