Default Problem with verifying and starting over

Hey all,

I've searched the forums and found many references to verifying file contents and it taking a long time, but I've another problem I can't seem to find help for.

Here it is:

My file indicates that it is 100% downloaded. Verifying file contents takes place ('bout 20 seconds for a 200MB file) and then the download starts again between 95%-97%. This has happened on only two files, but I can't seem to get the file and it doesn't show up in my shared folder.

Any ideas?

If you are using the latest version of LimeWire, this is happening because LimeWire has detected a corruption in the file and is redownloading the parts that are corrupt. LimeWire will attempt to do this up to six times. If, after the sixth time, it still fails, then it will let you know the file is corrupt.

Perhaps we should make this more clear ... Do you have any suggestions on how to do that?

Thanks.

Next question:

Will it ever fully download the file even though it might be corrupt?

Yup. If it still fails after six attempts, it'll allow the corrupted data to stay & inform you that the file is corrupt.

Sigh, at my age, you'd think I'd have learned some patience by now. It did exactly as you said, sberlin.

Thanks for the response.

I've been going through the same verify-and-repeat-downloading from around 96 percent. This is my second attempt at downloading the 525 meg file! But oddly enough, I made a copy of the file from the Incomplete folder (an MPG file that I renamed) and had Quicktime open it just fine. YET, if I close Limewire and click on the original "incompleted" mpg file (the one with all the numbers preceding the title), Quicktime will not open it.

So, I have *two* files -- a seemingly good copy that Quicktime will open -- and the same one in Limewire's "Incomplete" folder that you say is corrupt (and that Limewire tries to re-download)...
