Moved incomplete file, progress zeroed

I moved an 55% incomplete downloaded file to another directory. Then restrarted a new download to see if it would go any faster, it didn't :-(

I deleted the newer incomplete file, and copied the old 55%incomplete file back into the incomplete directory.
Now when the very slow download is re-started, it says it is only 1% complete. And even though the download entry says it's receiving data when I display the contents of the incomplete directory with explorer (I do refresh the view), the file is not growing in size :-(

any idea if I can get the 55% progress on the original file recognised by limewire ?

This is b/c you're dwnlding from a different source. Moving the file out of the dwnld folder may have affected LW's downloads.dat & .bak files. Have a look in your LW Library window & see what size your file is. You can try deleting the file from the dnld window (on search window) & going to lib wind & press force resume from the incomplete folder. Howver doing this risks the file starting from zero since the downloads.dat file has possibly been ammended.

What 'I' would do is (1) I would go to Library window & delete any listing of that item that is obviously less than 55% from the incomplete folder - you'll probably have more that one item in the incomplete folder listed! But make sure you delete the right one! Careful! (2) Then I would delete the listing from the dwnld pane of the search window, (3) then search for this item & reselect it to dwnld. If it continues at anything less than 55%, then I would delete it again from the dwnld pane & select another from the search results. I would continually do this until it works, also trying another search. If still no success, go to LW's menu & View-Show/Hide-Search & temporarily untick MagnetMix. Now try searching again (doing this may/not make a difference.)

don't touch your incomplete files without making a backup of your downloads.dat file. The "downloads.dat" file stores all the information about which parts have been downloaded yet.

Thanks for the replies.
I did try "restoring" each copy of the incomplete file from the recycle bin, but Limewire always started from 0% for each one.

I tried opening up the download.dat file and searching for each occurrance of the incomplete file, there were several entries spread through the file. But I can't understand the hex? data associated with each entry, so this wasn't very edifying.

I also noticed today that in the incomplete directory, the original 55% incomplete file appears to have the word Preview appended to the beginning of its file name.
Any idea why Preview has been added ?
If I was to use rename command to remove the word Preview from the 55% incomplete file, what's the chance that Limewire might recognise it again ?

Not great. Preview hasn't been added. At some point you must have tried to Launch that file, in which case Limewire created a "snapshot" file of the dlding file (I'm no developer. I'm not even a computer whizzkid so I'm only speculating). In short, that isn't the original dld and in the Preview file's data it is a complete file, meaning that if you were dlding a 100Meg file and this is a preview of that dld at 55%, then this Preview file is registered as complete and has only 55Megs.

I'm fairly sure I have listened to incomplete MP3 files before, and then restarted its download, without it having to start from 0% again, but I can't say I saw the word Preview appended to the front of the MP3 file name, so I'm not sure it's a valid comparison ?
The 55% incomplete file, is a .pdf document.

I too am not a developer, just a user, I hope my posts are ok for this forum ? It's the first forum for Limewire I found.

Yeah, it's not a good comparison. When you previewed those other files, you didn't move or anything their original incomplete, so Limewire knew (through downloads.dat) that, when you clicked Resume, it had to resume the incomlete file (in the Incompletes folder it looks something like this: "T - ######## - <filename>").
By removing the incomplete file of the dld that you are trying to resume now, you probably corrupted downloads.dat and it's backup downloads.bak, which would cause Limewire not recognizing them as a previous Incomplete. It is almost the same as partially dlding a file through another P2P client (even one that connects to Gnutella) and then moving that partially dlded file in LW's Incomplete folder in hopes of resuming it through LW.

Unfortunately, the Preview version of the 55% incomplete file disappeared from the incomplete folder, I think it must have happened after I shutdown my PC at the end of the day.
I have had to start the whole download again :-(
