Every file is corrupt?

I need help please! :(

My downloads reach 99%, 'saving' then say corrupted. I'm using limewire 4.0.8 and it seems to have EVERY file corrupt!? I've never seen anything like this. Its the same for mp3, mpeg files etc, nothing is a good file. Big co-incidence? (i tried to uninstall limewire, but it freezes during the removing and is unsuccessful)

Please can someone suggest a cure, i'm out of ideas :(

jay80usa September 15th, 2004 04:27 PM

Without knowing anything about what system you are running, what firewall(s), router settings, anti virus, version of Java, Limewire Pro? or standard?, version of Limewire (Jay80usa) settings for Limewire etc etc. It is difficult to try to determine what is wrong without any information. What you have basically said is "my car is broke what is wrong with it?"

We need more information so we can try and help you.

jay80usa September 15th, 2004 06:38 PM

Ok

IM running winxp. I have the 4.0.8 pro version
my settings are all stock. is this enough information?

Hoffman September 16th, 2004 03:58 AM

I am on Windows XP, I have norton antivirus, the only firewall I have up is my basic ADSL connection Firewall, Limewire Standard, not sure what Version of Java, but if someone can suggest a way to find that out.. I can get that to you.

All the settings have been the same since day 1, and I have had no problem untill recently. I was downloading about 3 songs at once, one had finished and I tried to launch it through Limewire Media Player, nothing played, I then went through to Winamp to play, which then said file not found(or something along that line). I have had problems since then.

Now, when I try to log on to Limewire, it takes awhile to load up, then awhile to connect. I downloaded the Beta Last night, but everything was the same. I have "show all speeds" for which Speed i am downloading off, but every file seems to be "T3 or Higher", which Iam sure is an error.

As i said before all my settings are defualt, and I went through a troubleshooter the other day to check the incoming and outgoing ports, everything seems to be fine.

Here is a picture http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-...0/limewire.gif

Hope this is enough for you norm

Hoffman September 16th, 2004 04:00 AM

Oh yeah, sorry for double posting, but on that picture it says 0%, all my downloads get too 100%.. Corrupted...52%..0%. This is for everything.

Try an other source, one without a T3 connection, there are many spammers between them.

The Limewire support isnīt responsible for the files, you paid only for the client Limewire not for the files you download.

Any song, any catorgorey, any file type, says T3 or Higher.

Norm September 16th, 2004 06:19 AM

Hoffman,

Open Limewire, on the top bar select - TOOLS, OPTIONS, SEARCHING, SPEED, check the box "show all speeds" and select "apply".

Good luck,

Norm

lol.. :p, what is happening though?

Norm September 16th, 2004 07:39 AM

Hoffman,

That is strange. I can't recall ever hearing of that before. If someone can't help you further I think it would be worth uninstalling Limewire from control panel, then manually delete anything left (ususlly a folder C:\Program Files\Limewire) and reinstall Limewire.

Norm

Hoffman September 16th, 2004 08:10 AM

Okay I've deleted that file and Un-installed Limewire, then re-installed it said I was either behind a firewall or I did not have a connection to connect to Limewire. :\.

I did a search through XP Search, and has come up with 51 items, in the C drive, in various parts of my PC. I thought about Ctrl and A'ing and hitting delete, but is that a good idea? Will it have some sort of effect on my PC and stop things running if I do this?

thanks for all your help so far,

hoffman

SNAKEEYESXXX September 16th, 2004 08:17 AM

Same problem here, every file is corrupted .... I ve downlaoded a song 30 times and every time it's corrupted :s.

Norm September 16th, 2004 08:25 AM

Hoffman,

I am not sure what the 51 items are. I wouldn't just start deleting.

Have you turned of the XP firewall? If not go to Control Panel, Network Connections, Single Click on your connection, in the box at the left select "Change Settings", select the advanced tab and uncheck "protect my computer".

If this does work for you then I would recommend you get a firewall. There are several free ones out there. Zone Alarm is only one of many. You can get it here - http://downloads-zdnet.com.com/ZoneA...ml?tag=lst-0-4

It can be set up to allow Limewire to connect.

Norm

Hoffman September 16th, 2004 09:10 AM

I've managed to finally connect to LW, but my ADSL firewall has been off all day anyways.. I guess it was just another error.

Every song/file that I've tried to download is STILL corrupt.. the 51 files are PROP files from older version of limewire and aload of stuff in Documents and Settings. I can post a pic later if you want.

Hoffman

Norm September 16th, 2004 10:54 AM

Hoffman,

I think you would be safe doing another un install then manually deleting all the Limewire references including the entire Limewire folder in Documents and Settings before re installing.

I have to believe your issue is related to the Limewire install. Something was remaining. I still can't figure out why you would only see T3 or higher returns. If that is a true report your returns are being severly limited.

Good Luck,

Norm

Hoffman September 16th, 2004 11:22 AM

hi norm,

I'll post the pic of the search that was done (on my sister's Xp account)

I'am suspecting the PROP files may have been a bit like an internet cookie, maybe they store older references and an older references may be erroring the new stuff.

okay, heres the pic: (you can see all the installers, lol)
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-9/829980/LW2.gif

Norm September 16th, 2004 11:51 AM

Hoffman,

I think you are exactly right. I believe the problem is in one of the prop files that remained.

Let me know what happens.

Norm

Hoffman September 16th, 2004 01:00 PM

hi Norm,

Do you suggest I delete all those 51 files/folders, or just the PROP files?

Cheers,
Hoffman

Norm September 16th, 2004 02:29 PM

Hi Hoffman,

I hesitate to say delete them all because a couple are certainly innocent eg - next to last file Paint Shop Image, the WINRAR archive is probably safe, however, if it was me I think personally I would delete them all. All that said, it is still better to error on the side of safety. You might try deleting the prop files & reinstalling but you may find yourself in an endless loop. It depends on how much time you want to spend.

The way I see it you didn't have any of these files before you installed Limewire the first time. I can't imagine what good any of them would do you with a new install and I feel like they probably hold the key to your problem.

I wish I could be more help.

jay80usa September 17th, 2004 03:25 PM

all i can say is

I uninstalled the PRO version that I paid for.
re-installed the normal version and Im still getting the same corrupted downloads. Before you sell a product you should make sure that it actually works. Im disgusted that I actually was stupid enough to pay for something that doesnt work.

Lord of the Rings September 17th, 2004 03:58 PM

LW works for most people, but not everybody has the identical computer set up exactly the same way & same connection & same LW settings used. Whatever your problem is, I'm sure the key to a solution for it is on this forum somewhere.

stupididiot69er September 17th, 2004 03:58 PM

hey pro is better than the normal one. (by the way we are just volunteers answearing forums) the corrupt filles are there because the riaa is trying to discourage you from uploading the songs you wan't. also this might be because some people don't check the files to make shure they work properly before sharing them. I know it sucks getting all this garbage but try not to download from T3's as they might be the music compagnies computers flooding the network with corrupt files and go in tools, options, filter, hosts and write this in
10.*.*.*
192.168.*.*
these tips should help lower the corrupt files you get I hope that you'll be able to download good files

Hoffman September 18th, 2004 07:26 AM

I've gone through all that, and it seems it hasnt resolved any of my problems. However, if this can be called 'progress' , when i removed LW, and deleted the installer and those files in my C:// so that LW was gone completely, once i downloaded the installer again, and installed it, there was a file i tried to download the day before. I thought id removed everything, but i'm thinking theres something else? Any ideas? I still have everything at T3 or higher, and every file is corrupts. Limewire worked for me for months, its changed for no reason, and i cant find whats changed! :(

Norm September 18th, 2004 08:33 AM

Hoffman,

Frustrating to say the least. You have tried almost everything. The only two things I can think of that are left is a registry scan after you uninstall to weed out any registry entries and (a long shot) a virus scan.

Norm

stief September 18th, 2004 08:42 AM

if the incomplete folder wasn't deleted, the old downloads will try to resume, even if the app was reinstalled.

btw--too many incomplete downloads did cause corruption problems in the past.

Search for "downloads.dat" and "downloads.bak" to find the incomplete folder.

stupididiot69er September 18th, 2004 11:30 AM

hoffman you might also want to check for spyware and adware. again it's a long shot but it's worth to try if everything else fails. I recommend adaware 6.0, spybot, spy sweeper, and pc bug doctor.
these are the best I found yet so try it out I hope this helps

Hoffman September 18th, 2004 03:28 PM

Ive done many many virus scans, and i have ad aware SE and have been doing regular scans, i will shortly try that search thing, and find out if there are any reminants left over, i appreciate your help so far everyone, i hope this has a happy ending :(

kevipooo September 18th, 2004 03:37 PM

same problem, but i had it a few days ago and when i closed limewire and reopened it would work but that aint happenin no more. this really blows

Hoffman September 18th, 2004 04:38 PM

Progress! From an accumulation of literally everything you guys have said, im now able to download a variety of files from limewire, however its still touch and go. I seems a few searches go mad and bring up just T3 or higher corrupted turd. But many other searches are bringing up some good stuff. Thanks alot. I'm thinking these dodgy searches could be down to just a few random spammers online? If so, is there going to be a way in the future to get rid of these people?

Norm September 18th, 2004 04:43 PM

Hoffman,

I am happy for you. You sure went through the mill.

not yet as far as I'm concerned, many people probly want them banned but all we can do is block their Ip's for now. but be carefull when you do so. some people might be just like us but they didn't check if the file was corrupt before sharing it

jay80usa September 18th, 2004 06:49 PM

well

im using winmx and im not getting a single currupt file.. goodbye limewire..

cynereo September 19th, 2004 02:41 AM

Problem Solved (for me at least)

So, I just got LimeWire not too long ago because of a recommending friend, and when I first used it, I had the same bad experience as everyone. EVERY song I tried to download would somehow become a "corrupted file" or whatnot. So, I went on the forum and searched for solutions, and tried everything everyone had to offer. All failed, except a helpful note from someone that mentioned firewalls. I remembered that I just updated my Windows SP2 with all that security updates (you know, when you first install a program a popup asks if you want to "block" or "unblock" from internet connections) Anyway, so I went into My Network Places>View Network Connections> into the properties of your internet connection (for me it's Wireless Connection) > Right Click then Properties >Advanced> Settings (Firewall)......instead of turning your firewall off (as it works as well), you can just go to the Exceptions Tab, delete the "LimeWire - The best sharing program..." then add the limewire.exe manually. It's as if the Windows Firewall didn't really "except" the program to share with other internet connections, so you had to do it yourself. So when you try to download a file with LW, the Firewall seems to "corrupt" it. After doing all of this, I went back and downloaded every song that I had a problem with, with absolutely NO PROBLEM... Plus, my firewall is still on and functioning. I hope this solves everyone's problem.

Too bad for Jay80usa, I hated WinMX. I last used Ares, and that was great for awhile, until I found LimeWire, this program is GREAT. And when you are on the same ethernet, you can share with your roomies in no time! (blue stars show up in the searches)

I'm usually always on AIM if you need further instructions/help...

Hoffman September 19th, 2004 09:07 AM

Thanks for everyones help especially norm :) I did use winmx to get a particular song i desperatly wanted while i had problems, but now i have it, i have no intention of going backto winmx. LW is easier on the eye, nicer to use, and safer. I hope this thread helps out other people who had this problem, including cynereo's solution.
Enjoy! :)

Corrupted Files - the answer!

I thought I was going to lose my &$#*(&% mind... tried everything suggested, and still found some songs would never download no matter how many times I tried, with a "file corrupted" message....

I would re-search, and get nothing but "T3 or higher" speed (a sure sign that your getting hooped by riaa).

Then, running out of ideas, I just started doing my searches broader (song name only).... and I found that I was finding loads of T1 and cable connections (much more likely to be free of riaa crap downloads).

Lo and behold, after trying to download one song about 40 times, to no success, I downloaded the same song 9 out of 10 times.

:D

johnnath October 4th, 2004 04:57 PM

ahhhh thats the solution. I was getting kind of worried when i was having all the same problems on my mac and nobody else in there had a mac that i could talk to. the T3 or higher connection speed is the giveaway i c

Justified Ancient of MuMu October 7th, 2004 06:53 AM

Ah! Hooray!! The answer!!!

I hadn't even NOTICED the T3 or Higher thing, just all the corrupt downloads. So I was right (in another topic on this forum), it IS a conspiracy theory. Thank God for that, I LOVE a good conspiracy theory. Slacker searches for popular songs and a wider variety of lower level sources, T1 or lower, and downloads work again.

Thank you. I'll go back to my **** searches again now (yeah yeah, I know... whatever, I'm OLD!).

Morgwen October 7th, 2004 07:13 AM

Its no conspiracy when all people know that the RIAA and other copyright holder are trying to destroy filesharing.

BTW, as I've said elsewhere, just systematically block the T3 hosts and you'll get useful search results again.
