Thumbs down Downloads stopping and starting

Hello,

I am having a problem using Limewire with downloads stopping soon after they start. They usually start again, then stop start stop start...usually it stops permanently before the file has finished downloading.

Also, I have trouble downloading even common Mp3 files that have multiple sources. Even in these cases I am told "need more sources." What could be going on here?

Using Windows XP (firewalled) Limewire 4.0.8 (basic not pro), T1 (LAN) connection. Also have ZoneAlarm (basic) installed but Limewire is granted access to the internet...let me know if you need any other info.

One thing to note--I DO occasionally get a song to download entirely, but 90-95% of the time it's unsuccessful--the download either cuts off partway or won't start at all.

Very frustrating!

Woof woof, Mr. Dogg !
No need to post more than once, OK ?
And, as this is the better forum for your question, I have left this one here...

Sounds to me like it is most likely a firewall issue. If you go to school you might want to contact the T1 administrator. But before all of that, make sure that the files you are trying to get, you are not downloading from T3 or higher sources. 99% of those are corrupt files and will cause the exact problems you are mentioning. The best things you can do is try to download from cable users and files that have as many sources as possible. If none of this helps, contact the admin, I faced a similar situation in college with a T1 and adjusments had to be made to the network.

Yeah did the test, it said "true" so at least Limewire is accepting incoming connections.

What is weird is that I can occasionally download a song, so I know it does work, on rare occasions. I'm going to start paying more attention to the sources that yield the few successful downloads and see if I can find a pattern.

Still seems very odd that files with like 52 sources won't download or give me "need more sources" error. How many sources do I need, 82?

By the way I am on a school network. I'm pretty sure they have installed a firewall on their servers for security reasons and I'm thinking that may be part of the problem. I'm a little wary of contacting the system admin(s) about program access though. Last time I told them I was "having a problem with downloads" and they told me they have blocked some P2P programs such as WinMX because it "encouraged illegal file sharing" and that I shouldn't be using these types of programs on their network. This is probably why WinMX stopped working a few months ago. I fear they may also be blocking or inhibiting Limewire in some way also. They have also placed large bandwidth restrictions on our network. Basically they're trying to do everything to ensure we can't download MP3 files.
