Default Problem with Japanese search results

I have Limewire on my Mac computer (a Powerbook using OSX).

When I search (in English) and find Japanese files, the display is only white boxes.

How can I adjust the Limewire settings so that I can remain in English but it will at least display Japanese in kanji characters?

The strange thing is that my Limewire has always been able to do this until recently. I have no idea why suddenly I now only see white boxes when I used to see japanese lettering just fine.

Help anyone?

I don't know the answer! But have you activated your japanese fonts with font book & System prefs-international & listed japanese? I suspect you'd need to have japanese activated for java & LW to be able to utilise these characters. You 'might' need to have Japanese pushed to the top of the list. Likewise I have a couple of asian language fonts activated for web purposes & general. I've never attempted to apply them to LW so I don't know.

I was thinking a sure way to do it should be to change your system language settings to japanese. But then that's also related to the interntional prefs. Once you've set up options, you can switch over quickly using the menu bar at top right where the national flag shows.

Many of the themes prefer Verdana as the font. Unfortunately, Verdana doesn't correctly display international characters. We'll investigate using an international-friendly font for the search results and other tables that can have foreign results.

That said, OSX should always be capable of displaying international characters, regardless of the font. I would check what LOTR mentioned to verify your fonts are all in order.
