Default convert avi to mpeg

What program do you use to convert avi files to mpeg?
So that i can burn the movie files to dvd. And one that
is freeware that doesn't decode half-way then ask you
to purchase the full version in-order to complete the
conversion.

Kind Regards,

Axell

The top brand burner apps will convert avi to mpeg2 for svcd & dvd before the burning process. Examples are Roxio's Easy CD/DVD Creator & the most recent version of Nero. If you want separate apps that can do it, well suggestions depend upon your OS platform. Most video editor apps will/should have this ability. Else you can purchase the MPeg2 codec separately such as from Apple's QuickTime. Somebody better experienced with windows video might come up with more ideas. You can also check out these sites for ideas or questions: 1. http://www.videohelp.com/ & also 2. http://forum.dvd-guides.com/

If you have the nero suite nero recode will convert it to mpeg-4 digital for you. Also nero will transcode avi to dvd directly during burn, same with vcd/svcd. Same with mp3 to cda for cds.

At least with Roxio easy creator, if you have an earlier version, you don't have to pay out xtra money for codecs so you can burn dvd. Roxio's been around almost since cd's & dvd's were matched up with computers. It surprises me that Nero is the more common burner app for windows. Perhaps it's better marketing & roxio toast (previously owned by adaptec) started off on the mac platform. Nero doesn't have the ability to treat a cd like a floppy as roxio's app can. Also arguably roxio's xtra utilities area arguably better. Roxio was a video/audio app maker before they purchased the rights to the burner apps. Why am I saying this. Once you've had experience with both, it's a matter of opinion but roxio seems to be the easiest & is the burner app innovator. Matter of choice.

actually nero has a new app called inCD that does treat cd's like floppys. Personally only ever used nero, OEM Bundle is what got me originally

LOL it has come to my notice as well. But Roxio developed that technology at least 5 years ago. Where was Nero at that time. Nero only started as a company in 1995. I'm not denying that Nero isn't good, b/c it is. But personally I find Roxio's burner & its xtras ahead of Nero. Toast was the first dvd app when Nero was still wearing nappies. Toast is the apple version of easy cd/dvd by roxio. But all that means little to the average pc user b/c Nero is the most popular burner app for windows! It's packaged well with too many burner devices & computers. I'd call that good marketing! It is a good app.

to true, thanks for the heads up on that. I will have to look into roxio, like i said i have only used nero, but i find that many things with nero are a pain in the rump, specially dvd burning.
