Firewall/NAT issue Hi there - new to the forum - hope someone can help For the life of me I cant seem to get much success in uploading - i can tell people the exact filename of what i'm sharing but they just dont hit me when searching. When I look at tools/options/bug reports I always show up as a shielded leaf and "received incoming this session = false" which I understand says i'm behind a firewall. My setup is a Linksys Wireless Router with Firewall turned off, and a Zoomx2 ADSL modem with Firewall turned off (on a network with 2 other PCs). Under options I have "Force IP" enabled What I don't understand is the difference between NAT and Firewall - the Zoom modem has a NAT configuration screen but I have no idea what I need to do. Any help gratefully received |

Since you've already port forwarded on LW & forced ip, see both: http://portforward.com/routers.htm for your particular Linksys model of router AND your Zoom modem. Also see: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=25119 If there's still problems setting it up, it might also be a good idea to talk to support for your modem/isp to find out more specific details for your particular modem & opening up port 6346 or other for port forwarding. Tell us how you go. |

OK I'm relatively new at this area. Can you tell me the models of modem & router you have. Are you sure you saved all your settings on these 2 devices? Which OS version are you running? If it's Win XP have you applied the SP2 to it? Also your 'nothing inbound' comment did that apply to checking your Bug Report (instructions link)? You did a port forwarding for your modem If it still says "received incoming this session:false" with the infos you gave, it's probably only an error in the router config. Are you sure LW use port 6346 (look in options advanced)? You forwarded that port in router? Is your computer on a static IP ie 192.168.1.5 instead of 192.168.1.100? Bonne chance

Yep - checked the port number and ensured thats right. I dont think it is a static IP address but that said it hasnt changed in a long time so I know it is the right IP address (double checked). I'm stumped ! |

Any more ideas any one ? I've been sat with Limewire running for about 6 hours and although I've had >30 hits on the files I'm sharing I've had no uploads and one guy has told me he tried to download but just got "need more sources". Any help gratefully received. |

Please configure your computer to get a static IP from the router first. Then portforward for that address. This will at least lower the possible causes of problem. http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm Also, the zoom x3 modem seems to be also a router. The best would be to configure your lan IP as DMZ. Look there for more infos http://www.askmarvin.ca/forums/index.php?showtopic=844 I'm not familiar as two bypass to routers... You'll have to do googling, but if you find the solution come back here to tell us please! Bonne chance

Hmmm... the half-bridge option is one that Zoom suggested to me but only having one of 3 machines able to access the web is no use to me. I wonder if I ultimately need to ditch my Zoom x3 for another modem that supports UPnP ? Sadly I'm in the dark as to a) what that implies and b) whether most modems these days support it ! Have set up static IP address but my IP address hasnt changed in ages Not sure how you put the LAN IP into the DMZ... modem's IP address is 10.0.0.2 - you mean put that into its own DMZ ? Will that work ? Lnksys Router doesnt seem to have a DMZ section Last edited by zen_hamster; November 6th, 2004 at 03:28 PM. |
