movie preview blank?

Hi

I have just started to download a movie(avi) and it has downloaded about 3% of the movie. I try preview it but when my player opens and starts to play the screen is blank and there is no sound eventhugh the timer is moving. Is this a corrupt file or do I have to wait a bit longer for more of the file to be downloaded to preview it?

It depends on how long the movie is. There could be a reasonable lead in time. But it doesn't sound too good. I just tried several but none with VLC. Although I use VLC, for me I've it setup so some formats open with VLC & others with QT player. It might be worth giving them a bit more perhaps 5 - 8%. If they're only short clips then perhaps 10-15%.

OH what type of file is it? Is it WMV? There are some wmv files vlc cannot play for some reason.
