Default Download/Upload Problems

I recently got OptOnline Cable as an ISP. Wow the speed is incredible. My downloads with LW have been only a matter of minutes, with all my files coming in with no errors for the first week. Over 2,000 mp3's and files totaling more than 20 gb. A few files contained viruses, but I was smart enough to check before opening and deleted those. Until I started sharing my music files. Then my troubles began. At first it was ok, users uploading from my system were getting over 100kbs speeds. Then a day later I noticed none of the users were able to get files. I thought it was LW, watching users in my monitor as upload file after file which read interupted. I thought it was a firewall problem. I verified I had port availability but still too many interuptions or no connections for users. Then a few days later my internet speed slowed down drastically to a modem speed. I called OptOnline and was told they were aware of my problem right away and that a rep would call me. He called & explained that my service was throttled down (limited) because of my excessive uploading which is considered being a server and not allowed on their cable lines. Their computers automatically killed uploads coming from my system to help regulate the traffic on the community of cable user to which I share this line with. I was told that I must stop the uploading or my service will again be limited automatically by their computers. but I could download to my hearts desire. I am sorry I want to share but I cannot. Thank you to all you nice users who can upload those wonderful file that I get.

Launch LW, Tools, Options, Uploads. Set the upload bandwidth lower.

Default Not so easy my friend

OptOnline further added, it was not just the amount of uploads, but also the continuious time of the uploads that their computers monitor. Because I have set the bandwidth down, and set the socket for one person at a time, but what I got was a line up of users waiting to get my files. Hence, still a continous upload. I did lower the share amount of files down to a drop in the bucket. No more MP3's available (which I have over 25,000 Oldies But Goodies and that was the bulk of what users wanted from my system). I do not have a contract with OptOnline and I will be looking to get either DSL (If they do not have a simular restriction) or maybe a T1 line if I can justify the cost. Now I understand when I was searching for files, and I browsed other OptOnline users, and wondered why they only have one file each in their share folder. At first I thought, how cheap, now I think, ah! playing it safe...
OptOnline (Roadrunner Affiliate) now I understand why they are the fastest. Because each user is basically limited to uploading or else!

I don't know what your connection setting is, but you could always lower it a tack. In that way you'll have more control over upld capacity & shouldn't be worried about people queuing up & how many files you share. Queueing is not the issue. Not from my experience anyway.

Upload capacity and the users that are queing are not an issue with me. OptOnline did not cut me because of the amount that was being uploaded, but because of the amount of time my pc does upload. No matter if I lower the band to a slower speed for those uploading, it will only increase the time to which my machine is uploading and therefore OptOnline system is going to get me for being a server faster.
I did question them on this point. I even asked how long could I upload in a given hour or day that would keep me within their guidlines, and the tech told me, that it varies from state to state and he could not give me an answer, other than to cut back and that if I get cut back too many times my service would be discontinued.
I am sure they know I am using the LW and are just trying to deter me from using it. I was told to go back and read their rules and warning about uploads. Thats why they mention it at their website and ask their users to avoid these share programs.

Second line first paragraph ..."and may slow down your connection speed" Yes it slows down my connection speed when they cut me back for using the software.
I am going to try leaving the system open at full for about 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening and see if can get away with that, plus try to let the current user finish their upload first within a reasonable time. I do not enjoy cutting anyone short, I enjoy sharing my files. Besides those oldies I share have been paid for dozens of time over and over. 75 % of those artist are dead anyway. Enough is enough.
