Upload Troubles

I made a video on my computer and promised my friends they would be able to download it through LimeWire. How do I upload the movie to the network?

ursula November 20th, 2004 09:20 AM

You only need to make certain that the file is in your elected shared folder...

Also, don't forget that the way that Gnutella Network actually works means that there is no certainty that even someone living next door to you is going to instantly find you within the network...

Your alternatives would be to learn how to make so-called 'direct connects' with your friends using Gnutella Network...

This is not really crazy complicated but you have to be nuts to try to do it without also using a chat channel of some type... Yahoo or MSN or whatever... You really will want to be in real-time chat contact while you are trying to establish a 'direct connect' and while you are trying to maintain any 'privacy' on that connection...

Remember... With Gnutella Network you and your friends can create your own 'private network' within Gnutella Network...
(Some idiots out there may go a bit ballistic at my last words, but ignore them... As long as you are still sharing generally within the network, using 'direct connects' can be a very easy way to INCREASE the total numbers of sources for rare files !!!
If you or a friend has something interesting, new or rare to share and... and you are able to get together with a few other friends and all share the interesting stuff quickly, then you and your friends are going to become a sudden increase in sources throughout the overall network, right ?)

There are many posts on this subject here in the various forums so have a long search and read first...

----

If, you are instead referring to a privately made video that you wish to share amongst your friends but not to the general public...

There are more secure alternatives...;)

Why don't you tell them to direct connect with you. Best if you enable chat if you're going to do this. It seems to improve things. You'll need LW version 4.2.2 or any of the recent betas for direct connect. To find your ip go here: http://www.broadbandreports.com/whois

Remember also that one or more of you may suffer from the 'dynamic IP blues' !!!

If any of the friends with whom you wish to 'direct connect' are with dynamic (changing) IP addresses, you will need the chat connection so that if one of you switches off or crashes or whatever you will be able to report the 'new' IP address !

Be sure to save the logs of your chat connects covering the first 10 hours or so of you all trying to get this stuff down so it's almost easy !!!
Those logs will make great reading someday !!!

LOL :p

Lord of the Rings November 20th, 2004 11:24 AM

Did you dwnld from here: http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...loadfree.shtml
If you're a pro user use yopur personal dwnld page. If you're a Win user, choose the english version.

MOOCOW November 20th, 2004 11:33 AM

it still d/l 4.0.8. It said that i was downloading 4.2.2, until the final d/l and it came out the old version.

ursula November 20th, 2004 11:47 AM

Hmmm...

I just tried the same old link given above and got 4.2.2

Lord of the Rings November 20th, 2004 11:48 AM

I'm checking it out. What OS version do you use?
And are you a pro user or use the free version?

MOOCOW November 20th, 2004 11:50 AM

Lord of the Rings November 20th, 2004 11:52 AM

OS = Operating System. Windows 98/2000/XP or Mac OSX or Linux?

MOOCOW November 20th, 2004 11:53 AM

oh lol. windows XP

Lord of the Rings November 20th, 2004 11:59 AM

I've finished dwnlding it but you'll need to give me a few mins. I use mac so I have to burn it & then put it into a virtual pc environment with windows. Bare with me. :)

MOOCOW November 20th, 2004 12:29 PM

ok.

Lord of the Rings November 20th, 2004 12:40 PM

Sorry it's taking a bit longer than expected b/c I forgot the english installer must be connected to the net. (My win 2k is not connected to the net for safety reasons.) So I dwnlded the international version & am removing the previous version. The 4.2.2 installer is open waiting. My win 2k is incredibly slow so there's going to be at least a few more mins. lol :) :D

Lord of the Rings November 20th, 2004 01:00 PM

Whilst deleting my LW the win system gives the appearance of having frozen. I'm not sure if it's still removing or not. More time.

Did you Remove your previous version of LW & then try to install the new version of LW you dwnlded? Are you sure you installed the copy you 'just' dwnlded earlier?

The version I dwnlded is definitely 4.2.2 OK it has the same LW.exe name when you 1st dwnld it. But the app that's installed is the newest version. OK took a while to sort that out. Have confidence. lol :D

MOOCOW November 20th, 2004 04:03 PM

ok i d/l the international version and now i have 4.2.2 thanks a bunch!:D
