Very Slow downloads Hello, I am a new user and cannot seem to download faster that 5 to 12 kb/sec. I do not know what to do. I have followed the bug report steps that I read somewhere and the "incoming... is "TRUE". I am using Comcast Highspeed internet.. and I have a Motorola cable modem. Onle one computer. Please help me!! XMAS |
merry! What modem & router models numbers are those by the way? Motorolla has a tendency to use nat anyway. Though if your model does it's strange it should show true for test results anyway. |
I do not use any Router. I put the cable line to the modem and then use the RJ45 to my computer. the motorola model is. SURFboard 5100 |
Have you checked the connection quality of your surfboard 5100? See: http://www.abxzone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84176 Dwnld speed really depends on luck of the draw as to who yo can conect to & how much upld bandwidth they have availabel or are offering. Even T1's & T3's may be slow at times b/c either their upld slots are shared b/w too many people or they're only offering a paltry amount for other users. Whilst you might be connected to several users you may only be getting a very small slice of what they have to offer. Some of these might also be intermitant where you're in a queue to share a slot & take it in turns. And some of these might be dial up (keep in mind dial up connections only have a max of 5-8 KB/s & most of that will be used for dwnlding, not uplding.) |
I would be thrilled if I had download speeds of 5 - 12 KB/s. I am usually getting 0 - 2 KB/s on a DSL connection -- 4 or 5 KB/s would be fast to me now. I have been using LimeWire for several years and have never had this slowness problem, which started a few weeks ago. I went Pro, thinking that would help. It didn't. I have re-installed LW twice without success. Does anybody have any idea what might be going on? |
Your modem is a USB/ethernet but do you use it with USB? The reason I'm asking is b/c there's 2 potential problems using USB modems. 1. Some draw power from the computer itself. 2. Some draw processing power from the computer, thus slowing it down. Have a look at the very last review here about speed problems with surfboard 5100 at Comcast (you're not the 1st with speed problems) apparently speeds have been capped to 1/3: http://www.celebrity-ltd.com/B00008Y...able_Modem.htm & the reference to complaints about Comcast by SB5100 users here: http://www.dslreports.com/ (you'll need to search thru yourself.) There's also others elsewhere here (more sifting) So the problem is not LW but it looks like Comcast! Oh that reminds me somebody else was complaining about Comcast elsewhere on the forum & I saw an article a week/2 ago somewhere on the net. There might even be a link on the forum by Stief if I remember correctly. I think it was Comcast. If you'd like a couple of quick speed tests & some other reliability tests for your connection see these: http://www.broadbandreports.com/tools http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp http://specials.zdnet.co.uk/misc/ban...eedtest50.html |
