very poor download speed howdy peeps, ok i've got cable it has the potential for approx 500 kb/s i realise this is only theoretical and i really don't expect anything above 100-150 however most of the time i'm getting 0-5 very poor indeed.. i'm working behind windows SP2 and i have the latest vesion of LW 4.2.5 i'm also using PC-cillen, my question is are there some settings some place i can tamper with that will increase my potential for speed? i have looked through stickies and i appologies if i failed to find usefull info regarding this subject, any advice would be gratfully recieved... oh yeah the upload speeds are just as lame by the way, i allready tryed settings in limewire for obvious things but nothing has a noticible effect, it is using a lot of bandwidth because my internet surfing is going really slow, LW is advertised as faster than Kaazaa but i see no evidence of that as yet. one more thing my connection is green all the way(Excellent) and search results return plenty of results but still i only get a few kb/s. Sounds as though it's your setup. But also keep in mind that there's dial-up users out there who have a combined upld/dwnld of about 6-7 kbps. Also those who offer many upld slots that share bandwidth & might only offer a minimal speed at times. Do this test for us (& you): Bug Report instructions & sample image And tell us whether it's True/False? What firewalls do yo have? What Operating System version do you have? What modem & router brand name & model number do you have? These are all potentially important questions. In the meantime you can optimise your LW settings with these hints: A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities. |
ok thanks LOTR i shall Jim |
True very true is the answer to the bug report, so no problems there then i guess OS is XP, Service pack 2 has added a fire wall i have no idea what it's called, PC-cillin(antivirus) has one also Jim |
The TRUE result is very good news! Your PC-cillin(antivirus) I will leave alone for the moment. Never heard of it & at this very moment am too tired to research it (perhaps tomorrow if you're still having problems.) Your XP firewall see here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml to ensure LW AND Java have full access. SP2 could be an issue. It has been for a great many businesses & p2p users. But we'll see. If you search sp2 on the forum you'll find plenty of feerences to it as well as patches for it (both by M$ & 3rd party.) SP2 changes your firewall settings back to default & also limits your connectivity to the net. |
i will be following up your last reply forthwith and thanx for the help.. yeah, i had allready read Leeware's offering but it really bared little relevence Quote:
for instance the section for seting the number of simultaneous downloads, this is apparently a completely ambiguous question and it was the same in other versions, lol, why don't they just change the wording of this line to make it easily understandable, anyway i've followed the advice and saw no change in performance:rolleyes: anyway thanx again and i shall now soldier on and let you know how i get on.. Jim ps you can get some sleep now if you like;) |
Rust never sleeps but just stops thinking after a time. lol :D |
