Snail Speed Ihave cable I usually get DL speeds of up to 100K. I upgrade to XP sp2 and sincethen the highest speed Ive gotten is 5K. Its usually 0K(zero). My limewire is also unstable , It hangs alot, and generates errors. I downloaded the latest version and it still hangs and slow speeds. Also JAVAW seems to be eating a lot of CPU cycles. I downloaded a new copybut same results... Help I miss my limewire |

Do you really need SP2? It's really only designed for major networks or if you have a business. Not for the average home user. A couple of options: 1. Uninstall SP2 2. Run a SP2 patch & follow the instructions HERE (click on link) & read up more HERE SP2 reduces your connectivity & also changes your firewall settings back to default. Check your Firewall settings here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml You might also want to double-check you have up to date Java: Java 1.4.2 (click on link) |

I have uninstalled SP2 and Im still getting < 1k d/l speeds . Other programs have no d/l problems. My stats show no UDP packets is that aproblem. I will trychanging tcp port Also no connection last more than 1 minute if speed goes over 2K When I exit and come back Iget "unable to restartdownloads" Last edited by trsands; December 14th, 2004 at 11:25 AM. |

Leave LW running for at least 30 mins & do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image & tell us whether your result is True/False. Have you configured XP & any other firewall yo uhave to allow LW & Java to have full access? See Firewall instructions Which ones do you have? Also can you tell us your Modem & router brand name & model numbers |

It's got me stumped. Unless we go thru your settings. Your LW 'hanging' is not a good sign. (I suppose you could update to Java 1.5 It's been good for some but others not.) In your LW settings: Tools>Options>Speed do you have Ultrapeer option or have you ticked it to disable UP? Do you wish to act as a UP? A piece of advice, don't use the Resume button on too many files in a session. If yu apply it to too many, your files will queue for much longer & it may affect LW's connection quality. Also see some hints on optimising LW: A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities. |

This is frustrating to the max. I have removed all the hotfixes going back 2 weeks, I have unistalled SP2 Uninstalled and reinstall LW and JavaW I have disabled my firewall and even tried 10 hail marys Im about to call the Billy Graham prayer line!!! Downloads from places like download.com come at 70 to 300 K My l/m average is < 1 Before removing the hotfixes I had the same problem with IMESH and WinMx but now IMESH gives 40 to 70K speeds. I hate using IMESH or WinMx!!!!!!!! My only option seems to be reinstalling the O/S.... The L/M search speeds are lightening fast I get returns almost instantly I spoke tooquicky it appears that IMESH also seems to have difficulty making and maintaining connections When I look at the status on my LAN connection in XP I am receiving approx 50K per second. This resembles a DOS attack I guess I need a home 'Sniffer' to figure out what the other traffic is. Im also gonna scan for spyware adware etc Also my PC is sending out about 80K/sec while my L/M uploads are < 1K I have even tried killing unkown processes in task manager..... nada except there is an instance of SVCHOST with no user name that regenerated every time I kill it hmmmmm??? Thats enough for a while Im gonna call the prayer line I really dont want to reinstall the O/S but looks so |

That really does sound suspicious. Somebody just within the last 6 hrs was having a speed problem with mysterious outgoing taking up their bandwidth. I'd do a thorough check with: ad-ware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ Spy Sweeper http://www.webroot.com/wb/downloads/index.php & your anti-virus softw. |

I forgot to mention you should not just kill processes because you do not know what their purpose is. Many of the processes will restart themselves if needed, or your system will crash if you select a needed process. |
