Unhappy please help with limewire 4.2.8

hi everyone

Please i need your help. I installed limewire version:4.2.8

When i start downloading from limewire my computer became so slow, extremely slow. I can't do anything. If i do anything else my computer froze. I have to exit limewire, and come back again to start downloading.

I have windows xp home edition SP2, 1024 MB memory,2MBPS broadband.

I might be given a lot of bandwith.

Can you please tell me what is happening, and what can i do to make my pc faster while using limewire.

Thank you for your help.

1. Update your Java: Java 1.4.2 (click on link)

2. Configure your firewalls to allow LW full access: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

3. Your modem/router may also have internal firewalls that are limiting access for LW. Can you tell us your Modem & router brand name & model numbers?

Default i am replying to the thread

hi everyone

Thank you so much for the quick reply i received from you.

I updated the Java as you mentioned, and configure the firewall i have(norton internbet security professional) to LW full access.

the modem i have is Speedtouch 330.

I can connect to LW anytimes i want , but the maximum i get is 10 KB , i have ADSL 2MBPS.sometimes it get to 10 KB then goes down to 2, 1 or 0 KB most times.

I don't know why is that.

Can you please help me as usual.

thank you for your help in advance.

Merry Christmas and a very happy new year.

My kindest regards

You have 2 firewalls then. Remember XP has its own. After LW has been open for perhaps 20-30 mins can you do this test for us: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is it True/False?

Try 2 things for now to stop the freezing: Go to LW's Tools>Options>Speed & tick Disable Ultrapeer capability option & press Apply button. Then go to Options>Upld>Basic & reduce the upld speed to at least 80% & press the Apply button again.

Whilst you have the speed to cater for Ultrapeer (UP), your modem itself might be an issue. USB modems (but I'm not sure about yours) tend to draw their power from the usb card on the comp, & also use up a % of your comp's processing power.

Default thank you for the quick reply

Dear lord of the ring

I would like to thank you for the quick reply i received from you, i am so approaciated.

Yes i have 2 firewall(zone alarm, and norton internet security), but not microsoft firewall from SP2.

I check for the bug it say:received incoming this session(TRUE),as you said to me if it true that it mean no problem.

I can use limewire anytimes i want ,no problem at all.

Now i reduce the Upload to 80% as you mentioned, i start downloading a lot of movies at the same times(15 movies), but the speed is maximum 8 KB, sometimes it goes up to 20KB,then goes back to 4 or 5KB no more.

I have ADSL 2MBPS.If i want to use the internet while limewire is on, the webpage open so slowly,i can't use the internet at all.

I might giving a lot of bandwith.if i exit limewire the webpage open so quickly.

Can you please let me know how to use the internet with the same times using limewire?

i am wishing you all a very happy new year.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Good news that your incoming test is True. How much RAM do you have?

Roughly how many files do you share & also how many incomplete files? (Just approx.)

You can try reducing upld speed to 50%. Do you know what your upld speed is according to your package? (2mbps downld, but upld?)

Try not using the Resume function or Find Sources button for your files. This will use a lot of LW & System resources & slow your computer down. Also allow your computer to settle down before doing anything. Depending on how many files you're sharing & how many incomplete files, LW can take some time to settle down.
