Falling Speeds

I am running the NEWEST version of limewire and Java. I have no problem connecting. In fact I often download at speeds above 40Kbs...for about the first 2-5 minutes. However, the longer I am connected and downloading the slower and slower the download gets till eventualy it "zeros" out. I am connecting to MULTIPUL highspeed sources and am only downloading a few music files at a time. In addition to the speed dropping continiously from the moment I start downloading the "connection quality" indicator (the little green/red bars) also drop steadily the longer I am logged on and down loading. Whats going on? I have used Limewire for ever and have never had this problem. I don't know what you guys are doing over there at lime wire, but every time you come out with a new version you add more features but the program seems to function less and less well! It's like, make sure the new versions core functions operate correctly before you add anything cause since you've gone to vrsion 2.+ the actual useability has gone in the toilet across the board and ifyou wanna despute that look at how large and loud the forums have gotten in regards to your users being unable to use the program!
Sorry about the rant but we are ALL getting a little sick of not being able to use this program or not being able to use it consistently and there are a LOT of us who are having a LOT of problems (again just look at th amount and tone of the posts here in the support forum, it looks like a microsoft support forum and thats not good).
Can anyone tell me why my download speed is directly tied to my length of time on Line (the longer I am on the slower the downloads get and the worse the "connection" gets and I am talking about going from 4 or 5 40+Kb downloads to 4 or 5 0Kb downloads and NO connection bars in like 5 minutes)

What do you mean how large the forum has got? Considering with just the windows LW alone apparently over half a million LW's are downlded on a weekly basis. Now how many or what % have an issue that they come to the forum for?

In my experience on the forum I've found some versions please some better than others. Be it going forward or back a version. There's so many variables when it comes to each person's particular set up. Each one varies.

If you have lots of people uploading from you then you should be getting good downld results. At present, I have a file that's been downlding consistently between 20-27 KB/s (25 av) for the past 5 to 6 hours from 4 hosts yet I only have a 260 kbps connection & yet I didn't even do a search for the file. It just reconnected itself. Perhaps you need to consider optimising your set up & use of LW a little more. These links have been posted over & over in the forum.

Well LOTR,
again I apologize about the rant. Just seemed like a LOT of windows users were all having similar problems. But enough on that dead subject.
as for my set up...my system and limewire are tweaked, geeked and I plugged all the leaks. There is not much else to be done on my end that I haven't tried. Any suggestions or thoughts cause after I posted last night the problem just got really bad, now I can download 1 song for about a minute and a half before my connection and down load speed go from screaming fast to non-existent. Thanks

That certainly shouldn't be happening. We might need to take a closer look at your set up to see what might be contributing to this problem.

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. XP with SP2 & patch.
2. What firewalls you have,
3. ram, 4. HDD space available,
5. Connection type, is satellite right?
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers,
7. Is your computer a part of a network or anything?
8. Did you install using the english installer or the multilingual or international installer?

Slow Download Times

I seem to be having the same problems as a lot of other people. When i first loaded LW Pro, I was getting 50 KB/s (plus or minus), but after a few days, I have never seen a connection speed above roughly 20. I have searched a lot of the forums & implemented many of the suggested fixes, but without success.

I have a cable modem through Comcast.
My internet conncetion for the web & Outlook email are still fast.
I have diabled all firewalls.
I have uninstalled the LW free program.
I have updated Java.
I have 1000 MB of ram on an AMD 2800 machine.
I have a 120 GB hard drive.
I have implemented all of the suggestions going through "options" in LW.

There has to be an explaination and a fix, but I'll be damed if I can find what it is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Slow Download Times

I have similar problems. Tried LW basic then Pro and same problem. Back to basic now.

Using win 98se, 1.8gh cpu. LW loads ok and goes for downloads. Very slow about 1 to 3k from up to 5 hosts. Reconnects many times and waiting many times. After LW been running for a while everything slows down. When I try to use my email spamkiller up pops a windows message " Buffer Full' and the program won't work. Get out of the program and try IE6 and I can't get anywhere.

Exit LW and reboot. Everything fine and super fast with my DSL. Run up LW again and the process repeats.

Why is LW causing this buffer full message from windows and killing everything. It only happens when LW is running. I have tried killing all programs but LW and the same thing. I have checked all settings in LW options and all are fine. Something in LW is causing this buffer full which slows all down and eventually kills everything so I must reload. Any one else experienced this problem.

falling speeds

This seems to be a very common problem that has been inadequately addressed... Does this sound familiar? Download speeds start off great then after five minutes slide to 0. At that point, we are unable to connect to the internet and must reboot. LOTR has offered some tips to fix this (java upgrade, setting changes), but I myself have had no luck. There must be a flaw in the program for so many people to be having this problem. How about a straightforward fix for all of us regardless of what configuration, OS or modem we are using????

recland January 31st, 2005 06:38 PM

Seems to be a common problem. I was only getting speeds up to 5k yesterday. Shut the machine down and opened up again this am. Loaded LW Pro and after about 5 mins was getting speeds up to 156KB/s. Average for quite some time was between 130 and 156. No changes made to system or LW Pro. Must be both Gremlins and fairy Godmothers at play. I dunno
