Same problem here. Someone please help. Running XP, Version 4.0.8 worked fine. Just installed 4.2.6 and get no search results at all, even with the most common titles. Have SP2 and McAfee firewalls but have configured them both per the instructions as well as turning them both off. Same results. Connection shows excellent or turbocharged. Other user searches are coming through, though no uploads. Cable connection with a wireless router. Configured it per the instuctions as well. Worked fine with the old software. Any other info I would be happy to provide. Please help if you can!! |

Check your LW settings. Tools>Options>Downloads & make sure it's set to a multiple no. & not 0 or 1. Tools>Options>Searching>Speed & tick show all speeds & press Apply. Tools>Options>Searching>Quality & select show all (at least for now.) Tools>Options>Searching>Limit & make sure there's a multiple no. in there. Tools>Options>Speed & enable OOB searching. Don't forget to press the Apply button after you make each or any changes. Don't forget to allow LW to settle before you start searching. It's not like a torch light where if you turn it on it's all of a sudden fully functional. I suppose it's more like a TV where you need to wait for all the circuitry to get fired up & the screen eventually lights up. Except for LW it can take much longer, needing to load up incomplete & shared files. Depending on how many it can take a while before it starts to settle. Make sure your Java is up to date: Java 1.5 (take the JRE) After LW has been open for 20-30 mins Do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is it True/False? If still no success you could try the beta 4.3.1: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/beta.shtml (but then LW 4.4 will be released in the near future.) |

Did all of the above, no success. Bug report was false but I am not too confident it is a firewall issue. How could it be a firewall when: A) I haven't changed firewall settings at all and LW worked great before the new install? B) It does not work with the firewalls turned off... C) The connection is excellent. Last edited by aviator11; January 14th, 2005 at 01:51 AM. |

It depends on the firewall! For example, many high speed modems & routers have their own internal NAT firewalls. Especially wireless routers. What brand & model no. modem & router do you use? Do you have a dial up modem back up? Some providers offer this service in case of problems. If yes, try it & see if it makes any difference. Go here & what does it say?: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ It should say Test page was a success. (Just a simple test to see if you are "Totally" blocked thru port 6346) Otherwise you could try these things: 1. Repair LimeWire using the Add/Remove Programs utility. Go to Control Panel then Add/Remove Programs & click on Limewire on the Change/Remove button & it comes up with options and one of them is Repair. Try this. 2. Right-clicking the Limewire icon and going to properties and changed compatability setting to Windows 2000. 3. Update your Java version 1.5 (take the JRE) 4. Delete the LW Preferences folder called .limewire (whilst LW is closed!) & found here: Windows NT 4.0 / 2000 / XP: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire OR Windows 98 / ME: Your .limewire folder is in "C:\My Documents" (BUT make a note of all your LW settings 1st, b/c after you delete the LW prefs folder you'll need to reset them. 5. Right-click on the Limewire icon on the desktop and click on Run as. Then it should come up showing the current user and then switch it over to Administrator. (Which is fine if you're the admin of your comp.) |
