3 problems

Hi. I'm hoping someone can help...I just downloaded the newest limewire direct from the website, I have windows XP, and since I use AOL, I think a firewall is included.

1. I can't figure out how to "swarm" downloads. On the limewire web site, it says after searching, to click on the "locations" column to re-sort by location, but I do not have a locations tab in the search section.
2. When I try to preview a video download, I just get a ping sound and it does not play. I can play audio from the library with the
3. The stats on the Connections tab say: 3 ultrapeers, 0 peers, 0 leaves, 0 connecting, 0 standard. Could someone explain what that means?

Thank you sooo much!

1. Right-click on the very top of the search results column & you will see options to display. Locations is one of them.

2. Sounds like you're lacking the necessary video codecs or you don't have a default video player set as a default. Try http://www.divx-digest.com/software/nimo_pack.html (& only choose Mirror 2 link!!!) or http://www.click-now.net/html/K-LiteCodecPack.htm
A player with inbuilt codecs & plays all new formats (except the odd wmv file) & is free is
VLC (choose nearest mirror site)

3. 3 ultrapeers (UP for short) means you are using LW Basic version. LW Pro connects to 5 UP's. The others mean you are not yet connected or are just starting to connect. If you want to find out more about UP's search the word ultrapeer on the forum or see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=31491 or go to the LW website support section & look at the glossary section.

thank you and Pro question

Thank you for your help!! I just upgraded to Pro, but after I downloaded it and try to launch it, a message comes up telling me the Installer I am trying to use is corrupted or incomplete. I've downloaded it thru AOL, and also thru IE, but always get the same message. Any thoughts?
Thank you for this great service!

What is the exact message you're seeing from the installer, Jill?

Thanks.

The exact message I get is:

The installer you are trying to use is either corrupt or incomplete. This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download, or a virus. You may want to contact the author of this installer to obtain a new copy. It is possible to skip this check using the /NCRC command line switch (NOT RECOMMENDED).

I hope that helps...
Thank you
Jill

Hi Jill,

You may want to clear your browser cache prior to downloading, as well as delete any existing downloads of the installer. You can delete the cache in Internet Explorer by going to Tools -> Internet Options, and clicking 'Delete Files'. It may take a while to complete.

I did as you suggested, downloaded again after clearing the files and old versions, and got the same message again. I was able to download the basic version with no problem. Any other suggestions?
Thanks for your time,
Jill

Do you have another browser to download thru? (Which version of explorer is it by the way?)

newbiejill February 12th, 2005 03:09 PM

I have IE 6.0, and with AOL that is my only browser. I tried following the instructions on the troubleshooting section of the web site where it had me go into the firewall section of explorer and add two Gnutella IP's. Nothing changed after doing that, though. It doesn't really seem like the problem is with my browsers, based on the error message. Could it be something with the McAfee firewall? Do most limewire users HAVE a firewall like that? Isn't that a sort of necessary thing? Also, I know it's off topic, but are records kept anywhere of the files that users share?

Thank you both again for all your time and patience.
Jill

How close a look did you pay to the error message? Did you note some of its suggestions then? Do you have anti-virus softw? Have you reddied your computer for installing LW by configuring your firewall to allow LW access? Glad you have so much confidence in M$ Internet Explorer.
