It seems that even though Im always and ultr-peer with 90% of my bandwith open and unused, plenty of free MEM and CPU, and about 60 peers, any single download never claims to have more than 10 sources.

Is this by design? I sure would get things faster, if it allowed ... say 20. Especially where 24 are available, and if im stuck to just 10, i may not get a couple of those T3 fast ones.

What is the likelyhood of this limit getting changed into a configuration option (setting) that I can modify?

Also, what are the chances of getting the peer limit set as an modifiable option, so I can upgrade throughput from just a couple meg to 10 or more, by doing 100 connections (peers + leafs) instead of just the approximate 60 max that Limewire seems to set?

This would also help me get better searches than I do currently. I usually only get 4000 hosts showing in stats, with not more then 5 Terabytes available to search. In the olden days of Limewire 1.7d, I recall connecting to over hundreds of Terabytes and literally thousands of hosts. I know that the system has been improved greatly, and changed, so i dont expect to use that as a gauge for success or proper Limewire efficiency. But the idea of 'more' is appealing.

The stats that you see about how many hosts and files are available on the network are very innaccurate, they're just a wild guess.

Regarding the number of peers you connect to, 60 is by design because of various limitations. We are working to address those, but for the moment making that the number of peers a changeable setting will cause a lot of instability.

Those same limitations cause us to have a small fixed number of sources that you can download simultaneously from. If you're using the free version you may want to try going pro as we've made sure downloads will be a little faster on pro.

How does my Pro version actually provide 'faster' downloads than the free?

Does limewire have any sort of intelligence to take the 10 connections and then replace a modem transfering at 1k with a T3 transfering at 80k, during initial negotation, or even after the download has started?

This software intelligence would be helpful, because I find that I usually turn off my limewire and computer when i leave the desk, since the only way to maintain large downloads over TIME is to constantly be researching and punching down additional newly found hosts, since many of the originals tend to die out long before a download is finished (when talking 2 hours or more).

So basically its pretty useless to me, unless im actively 'riding' limewire to obtain downloads, to have any efficient use. Of course this doesnt help others who would want something from me. Thank goodness there are 1.2 million daily users of Gnutella. But peoples usage habbits will change as the software further improves.

4,000 hosts max. You can clearly see that there's a limit because it's always EXACTLY 4,000 if the net is fully working.

Cougar, which version do you use? An older one I suppose where these limitation might have been not as strict as now?

I remember getting more downloaded in the same amount of time, with my same connection, with limewire 1.7d. However Now (because of features and compatability) I use 4.2.6.

I'm not sure I trust 4.6.0 at this time. I'm going to wait and see what other people say about it before trying it. Plus i hear mixed reviews about the different java runtimes to install for new versions.

(I save ALL my old versions on disk, just in case Java or Limwire ever start putting out code that is not in the downloaders best interest.) But so far, I've only noticed the annoyance of the 10 connection limit per download, and the 30 peers + 30 leafs limitation. There may be other limits that I would not appreciate, but I haven't found them yet. So I usually give Limewire, in general, a higher score than any other p2p software client. We will see about this 4.6.0 though.
