That means you don't have the right codecs (mini-programs that translate the various video formats.)

Two suggestions: 1. Get more codecs: Nimo's codec pack should help: http://www.land.ee/d_nimo_codec.html OR http://www.click-now.net/html/K-LiteCodecPack.htm

2. Get a backup player called VLC which is free & has all its codecs built in & plays everything except the odd wmv file. Get it here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ (choose nearest mirror site)

I've got another problem cos I installed the second codec pack, and now he opens the avi files with windows media player classic, which is fine but sometimes it just goes black or gets stuck. Sometimes you see someone moving, but on the moving face you see the structure of the last object, like fruit or wood or anything. Can you help fix this? I really like to keep my media player 10.

I didn't realise you'd posted back. Outside of LW, select one of those video files & go to menu File>Properties>Open with... then select WMP10 & choose always open with. This will make wmp10 the default player to always open that type of file. You'll need to do this for others also like avi, mpeg/mpg, wmv, etc.

Good show by the way!

When I open it with Media Player 10 it says that it doesn't have the codec to open it ...

Did you read carefully the instructions on how to install the codecs?

Then you may need to get a backup player for those odd ones that WMV can't play. Such as those mentioned earlier (VLC & DivX player.)

Tell you what, get GSpot: http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ & open it up with it & it will tell you which codec is needed.
