Upload Theft

Please help.

Everytime I download, I get a massive problem. My uploads match it. Even though I have turned all access to people sharing my files off. I know that this is frowned upon, but I only have a certain amount of memory available to me. It works out that if i download 5mb, then 5mb has been uploaded from me. thats double than what iv asked for,, so in effect im only getting half my moneys worth from the inernet provider. i have followed the below technote to no avail. Can somebody please help?

LimeWire
To disable LimeWire's server function, restrict simultaneous downloads, and prevent LimeWire from launching automatically when you start up your computer:
1. Launch LimeWire.
2. From the Tools menu, choose Options.
3. In the left pane of the window, click Sharing.
4. In the Shared Directories field, remove each shared directory by selecting it and clicking Remove.
5. In the Extensions field, delete all the text.
6. In the left pane of the window, click Speed.
7. Check Disable Ultrapeer Capabilities.
8. In the left pane of the window, click Downloads.
9. In the Maximum Downloads field, type 1.
10. In the left pane of the window, click Slots. Note: If Slots is not listed, click the triangle next to Uploads, then click Slots.
11. In the Uploads Per Person field, type 0. In the Start Upload Slots field, type 0. In the Max Upload Slots field, type 0.
12. In the left pane of the window, click Shutdown.
13. Select Shutdown Immediately.
14. Click OK.

What's the problem? Do you want more description on how to follow the instructions?

No The problem is that the upload is still exatley the same as the download. For example i download 1mb and 1mb is uploaded from me. Therfore lost 2mb. is this how it should work?

That's odd, then your ISP provider declares that everything you upload & download = total upload ?
That's also strange that your uploads should be identical to your downloads. Have you checked your Monitor window to see if they are uploading the identical files you have the same day?

Something else, LW's menu Tools>Options>Uploads>Basic & untick or make sure that Partial Filesharing is not ticked & press the Apply button. (I suppose also turn speed to minimum.) You did press the Apply button after all those changes you made above didn't you? Always press the Apply button after making any changes to Option settings.
Also go to Tools>Options>Advanced>Preferencing & type in 9000000 in the option box for how many files must share not to be a freeloader. Press Apply.

Oh I should have mentioned that if you are in front of the computer whilst this is happening, then move the files you have finished downlding into another location on your computer or an external storage device.

I don't quite understand how this could be happening. Sounds very suspicious. May I recommend you get yourself some tools:

1. A reliable anti-virus program

2. ad-ware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ (FREE)

3. Spybot - Search & Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html (FREE)

4. Peerguardian: http://peerguardian.methlabs.org/pg2.html (FREE)

I took your advise and downloaded the relevant software that you suggested. I deinstalled Limewire and re-installed. De-fragged the hard drives, and the system is behaving normally now.

thank you:)

Good ... that did sound very strange! I'd hate to think what was going on! ;)
