I've been using LW for while now, and always got good search results, but recently they have been rubbish, hardly anything comes up like it used to.

What could be the reason for this?

I'm using LW 4.6.0 PRO and have XP SP2

Is there special firewall ports I need open for good search results ?

Firewalls don't influence what kind of results you'll get (maybe the amount).
It's probably because users that don't know much about P2P or comps (basically, people who are rather uninformed) help spread bad files (files with wrong filenames, fake files, etc) like the plague because they don't remove them from their HDs
