Default Limewire crashes and can't reload downloads upon restart

Limewire always crashes. It may be minutes, hours, or days, but it eventually does. When I restart the computer and open Limewire again, I get an error message saying it can't find the old downloads. Even with broadband I can rarely complete a download because I always have to search and start the download over again. Why can't Limewire find the old downloads that were already in progress? Sometimes it does, but mostly it doesn't.

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. ram?
4. HDD space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Both Java version & LW version will be listed!
9. How long have you been using LW & is this your 1st version & did you have the same problems then?

Set your downloads to auto-clear. Go to Speed option & tick disable ultrapeer capabilities & press apply button. Reduce upload speed to 70-80%. Reduce download speed if possible to 90-95% (optional.) Close all windows you're not using at that time (eg: connection, monitor & library windows) by using the menu View>Show/Hide option. Try not to download too many files simultaneously. After opening LW, let it settle for 20 or more mins before doing anything. Do not use the Resume button on all your incomplete files. This will definitely cause problems & use up all of LW's energies as well as your computer & possible affect your connection. Resume can be effective but should only be used on a few files at the one time. Better is to manually search the topic again to find the sources & is more effective. If necessary, reduce shared files a little. Do not run any other p2p app simultaneously. delte search results that are a few hours old. Update your Java here: Java 1.5 (take the JRE)

All these things should help prevent your computer from having problems. 360 MB is not a lot of ram nowadays but should be sufficient. Unfortunately, java is not very memory efficient. Good luck!
