Newbie needs help

I just became a member and am having some difficulty after an easy start. I am using windows xp on AOL. When I start a search for an artist on audio the name disappears when I press search and no search begins. How can I fix this? Limewire is definitely running when this happens. Thanks!

Can you provide some more details. It could be due to a no. of things. If you've resumed all your files then LW might be too busy to carry out the search. Particularly on dial up. By the way, Resume button should only be used sparingly, particularly for dial up. It has side FX when applied to many or all incomlete files.

How many search results do you have up? Clear those that are a few hours old or if you get close to having double-digits whilst on dial up. On dial up it's not wise to try more than one search simultaneously.

I wonder if you closed LW & re-opened it whether it would then be ok.

Also, LW takes time to load the incomplete & shared files & then to settle down. After opening LW, don't rush into searching or other activities. Leave it for 15 or more mins & then carry out your searches. The longer LW is open the more stable it is. If you have people uplding from you then it's much easier to get good search results & downld results.

Have a look at this for hints: search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities.

Thanks for your help...I really appreciate it. I have a feeling that LW is just too busy on weekends. Nothing is happening at all. At one point the search finally happened, but none of the options came up at all, such as download. All the buttons stayed grey. If it doesn't work on Monday I may question you again. By the way I am on Broadband, not dial-up.

Thanks again.

You can always try these fixes: Fixes for Limewire Update your Java! But even on broadband or cable you should give it time to settle. Be that 15 or 30 mins. Also using the media player can make it just that bit more busy.

It Worked!

Thanks so much for all your help. I upgraded the whatever it was to Windows 2000 and it is now working lightening fast. You're the bomb.
