I have tried installing the "lost files" from my XP CD - no difference.

What I have now noticed is that I opened up LW and left it running - did not do any downloads BUT when I checked on the pc an hour later, the screen display went into "safe mode", the screen resolution went to 800xXXX instead of my 1024x768 AND there was a message about an incorrect screen driver.

This is getting worse!

So lets see, I have corrected faulty files with my cd, changed the upload and download bandwith, rebooted the pc.

Is there anything else left to do other than throw the bloody pc in the bin? Wait! If LW is causing problems but not Winmx, Kazaa Lite etc...perhaps the software developers at LW may have a bug in their application?

What do you mean by ppl from the uk and crackdowns?

Also, heres a thing: My pc crashed just as I was about to post a reply thread here - without LW running!!!

Is it possible that one of my memory strips could be causing problems?

as I have 512 (256x2), can LW still run using one 256 strip to prove if LW is actually working properly???

I have taken out (what I assumed was a faulty) memory strip and started up LW again.

In the middle of 3 downloads, the pc froze crashed the rebooted.

I have done all that you guys advised me to do.

What else can be done other than a complete installation of Windows XP?

Help please!!!!

You still may have to go that route, but try using your XP cd to do a repair of your master boot record (mbr). It also provides other repair options also.

Don't forget you have to start(boot) the comp. using the XP cd.

I had a problem with my comp. last night, another issue, but that fixed it.

Just a thought.

Fabien

Is it not anything to do with the fact LW is now a pro (turbo) version and my sempron 2400 with 512 DDR (pc2700) may not be fast enough for it?

I could revert back to a slower version of LW?

what do you think?

I've had LimeWire running on too many different computers to blame PC crashes on it. Bad news is, & I say this as a guy who charges 65.00 an hour to reprogram computers. Fdisk, format, start from scratch. Takes about 3 hours to completely reprogram, update, and install vital programs with Win XP and on cable. You can try all the fixes you want but this is the least aggravating.
